The cost of boar shooting abroad

Looking at some of the threads selling driven boar trips abroad it seemed that they have become quite expensive.
I've been on enough driven boar days to know how things work and understand the logistics of what it takes to organise a driven day. But are they good value for money?
I know the foibles of hunting and it is hunting so nothing is guaranteed.
I love driven boar, like planning the trip , the company, all though you need a good sence of humour and thick skin if you go with a team from England, especially those that come from above the Watford Gap.
It strikes me that for the cost of a boar trip there is much better hunting to be had. £2500-£3500 would Buy you a decent trip to Africa or a place in a really good deer syndicate in the UK.
I'm lucky in that for half the price I will be hunting ducks, pheasant, boar and roe for the whole season for about £1500, all 10 minutes from home. Also thinking about buying a couple of driven days here in Sweden .
It's not that I can't afford a driven hunt abroad and I'm sure I could be tempted in the future. But is driven boar good value for money compared to other hunting available?

I have never managed to get invited. Local German hunters here tell me of state forests offering 50-100 Euro per day hunts but you really have to be in the know to get into them. I have been on two, a 650 Euro Croatia one and saw nothing and an 850 Euro on the local US training military ground again I saw nothing. That's me done with it.

I've seen plains game trips advertised on here for that sort of money. Of course you have you air fare on top but you have to pay for air fare for a boar trip.
I would have thought that if you did a plains game trip too shoot X number of animals that there is a very good chance you would shoot that number.
Over many boar trips there have been too many poor days. Interspersed with the very few good days.
A £2500 ɓoar trip will have cost you the best part of £3500 with air fare, tips ,airport parking ,etc. A lot of money to shoot perhaps two boar.

I very much fear, that I will never be wealthy enough to go on a Boar hunt - it really does look to be terribly good fun.

I was invited to go on a trip to Portugal by a member here on SD. Two weeks of going to monteria 's all over Portugal. Great hunting . Mixing with the locals ,eating local food and for me drinking too much. My personal bag may not have been high but a days montaria was relatively cheap the whole trip cost about £2000 but was one of the best hunting experiences I've ever done.

A montería (Spanish: [monteˈɾi.a]) is an ancient type of driven hunt endemic to Spain. It involves the tracking, chase and killing of big-game, typically red deer, wild boar, fallow deer and mouflon.

Good fun it definitely can be. With the right gang of lads and having a few boar running passed you it hard to beat. The right gang of lads is the easy part but you can have the same down the pub for less money.

Good fun it definitely can be. With the right gang of lads and having a few boar running passed you it hard to beat. The right gang of lads is the easy part but you can have the same down the pub for less money.

You aren’t going to remember a night down the pub with the lads though are you?
If you go away for a one off trip together it’s way more memorable.

The reason I go on a driven boar trip is to shoot boar. The good company is just a small bonus. Several times I've booked a boar trip through an agent in Hungary. All the other hunters have come from various parts of Europe and after the hunting i've gone back to the hotel one my own and eaten in a restaurant alone. I've enjoyed those hunts equally as much as the ones i went on with a group from the UK. If I want to fun time with the boys I could book a holiday just for that at a lot less cost than a driven boar trip.

For me, any sort of trip away from home is as much a social thing as an attempt to bag animals.
I wouldn’t pay a penny to go to some foreign land to hunt with a bunch of unsociable random strangers even if it involved shooting dozens of boar.

I've generally not found my fellow foreign hunters to be unsociable. I've had some great conversations and laughs with them. I've also been on trips with a groups from the UK most of whom have been great and a few people who have been real armpits. I also like to get a feel for the country I'm visiting and many time have gone a few day before the hunt to experience this.

Do the Forest of Dean special. What it lacks in provenance it more than makes up for on the hill billy interbreeding side of things.

Sadly, the bags became worse and worse, nowhere near the advertised levels due to bravado and over promising, overshooting and swine flu amongst other factors. The agents and local organisers realised that they can take your money and get away with poor excuses, whilst pocketing your hard earned cash and providing little or no shooting.

The last few trips were dire, the organisers seem to be quite happy to say 'that's hunting' and the keepers still accepting large tips without any hint of gratitude or apology. That's not what I expect when handing over thousands.

I am lucky enough to have driven hunting available 3 days a week, 5 months a year for around 500 euros a year, literally on my doorstep here in the South of France. There may be long periods without dirtying the barrels, but it's all open and natural and I don't feel like I'm being ripped off with no recourse.

If a hunt organiser sells a trip where a certain number of boar are expected to be shot then I would expect the bag to be around the numbers advertised.. I have no problem if there is a reasonable number of boar shot at the end of the day but lady luck has not smiled on me. Such is hunting.
Membership in Our hunting team costs about £350 . I could sit out for boar all year ,roe stalking in season and 4 drivenboar days. Five of us are starting a small pheasant syndicate this year and setting out more ducks than last year. For a cost of about £700 each . Þhe cost should be cheaper next year as we won't have the setup cost. I'll be looking more local to buy the odd driven day..
