So

In November 2019 I undertook the rebarrelling of a Sig Sauer SSG 3000 for myself using barrel extension made by a gunsmith in Denmark

I used an image I took with my camera, of my lathe, of the barrel and barrel in situ in my 4 Jaw Chuck to post on a couple of accuracy based web sites and on my own web site (Bowland Custom)

This morning, I was told that a image “very similar” to my own image was being used on another persons media page to promote their own work

Having challenged the person concerned I got no response

So I wondered I could be wrong and the image is different

Perhaps the panel could decide

The first is the image I was told about today

The second - my own taken in nov 2019

Am I incorrect ,,,,,

I'm absolutely certain it's the same photograph. While it's in his photo album I'm note sure if he's actually claiming it to be his work because I don't do facebook so don't know where to look for that information.
However considering the amount of abuse that has been directed at the chap by many off this site previously you would have thought that he would have been more careful than to use someone else's photograph or to even imply never mind lay claim that somebody else's work was his own. :(

Same pic, all the marks on the piece, the jaws and chuck, light reflections etc... they all match up.

Someone is a very naughty boy. It does make me ask would I use a gunsmith that passes off other peoples work as their own? If his own work isn’t good enough to show????

I once posted a pic on the Internet and had a demand for cash or being sued as the guy had done a image search and found the picture. I apologised and removed the image…. Further nasty threatening emails followed which I ignored. If he’d gone about it in a nice way I might have sent him a bit of cash to use the image (which I didn’t steal from anywhere as it was a screenshot someone sent me). Personally I’d forget it life’s too short for this sort of thing.

You have copyright over your own images, but trying to enforce that is always very difficult. In terms of the design etc, difficult to protect, but ultimately you have done the work in working out all the measurements / tolerances etc and he won't be able to get those off a photograph. But is it beyond the wit of a skilled machinest to work these out. Probably not.

You have your own brand, reputation etc and clearly this is why people part good money to use your product. Does the imposter have that same degree of experience / expertise.

I am afraid in the democratisation of information it is very easy for people to find out information and to copy stuff. Reputation and expertise is not recognised, and many are not prepared to pay for it. However the difference between success and failure is but a cigarette paper, and those that are successful recognise expertise and are prepared to pay for it. If I was spending £950 on a rebarreling job, I would want to use a recognised gunsmith with plenty of expertise etc. and full understanding of the stresses and strains and requirements of proof etc.

Clearly the same image.

The wording of the post suggests he is waiting for barrels/ three lug extensions, or hasn’t made them yet and didn’t have one to photograph. “Barrels available soon” could mean “order a rebarrel and I’ll buy the bits in with the deposit money rather than hold stock for something I might never sell”

If it was my image I would politely ask for it to be removed.

Already done and ignored

Hence my thought I must be mistaken that it was an image taken by me

Clearly I was incorrect and it is

Does nothing for an individuals credibility or reputation (if they had any )

The problem with plagiarising other peoples work, is losing all credibility, where anything you post, is then questioned !

In this day, and age, where the community is small, and internet use prolific, it's very silly !
