The hips don't lie!

COVID last week has left me with a legacy of aches and pains. Every bone including teeth hurt still and it's getting me down, the hips especially hurt! Everything is hard and the drive to get out is waining, especially to go get this season's first pheasants.
Well after a long night out with technology and aching all over for it the next day I decided a gentle waddle into some wild pheasants on my patch with some primitive hardware and no tech was in order!

It's been so long since I've been out with this flintlock I felt bloody naked! No thermal, no optics, no binos, just a knife, flint and black powder!
At first I was rushing and not looking but I soon got back into the rhythm. Slowed down and started to watch more, move less.

Now this ain't no flying bird hunt like most of the UK conduct pheasant hunting, no, it's stalking them only these birds are not stupid, they are wild now. All I do is keep the foxes down and they breed. I keep the hens but take the cock birds. I do wing shoot them but occasionally with the flintlock trade gun put the sneak on for a sustainance bird or two.
Well I got me my first two of the year. Considering the rain and damp I did suffer a couple of miss fires but after knapping the flint got fire.
Anyway the pictures oh and my favourite snitzl coming up 😋.

I feel your pain with the Covid SD - I’m still recovering & find I’m out of energy really quickly. Like you I’ve been keen to get out on the does, the two I got yesterday evening didn’t seem like hard work to gralloch, but this morning… I was feeling like an old man!

Trying to drum up the enthusiasm to get out before sunrise tomorrow morning but I’m not convinced yet!

Well done with the old long tails 👍

Thanks, it sucks don't it.....
I'm hoping to find a fallow tomorrow afternoon.
Well done to you and your dogs 👍🏻.

I know of a lot of people who have had, of have got Covid at the moment. Most seem to be unwell for between a week and ten days with this variant. Hope you make a good recovery. I had Covid and a bit of long Covid too. Afterwards I could not hit a barn door even if I was inside the barn. Took a couple of months before I could hit that barn door, and another couple of months before my "accuracy" had fully returned. Has anyone else had this happen to them ?

That's proper getting back to the basics, fair play to ya.

The best days are always outside, anything else is a Brucey Bonus.

Same here with the latest variant.
Not overly ill but bloody knackered, also very annoying tinnitus which refuses to go even after a couple of weeks.

Look forward to the Schnitzel Report. I expect the hairy hound enjoyed the outing as well.

Nice work with the ML, thanks for sharing. Sill use a hammer gun every year but its not comparable to the old ML.

Thanks, I'm out now but nearly didn't!
Jess was at home but out with me now.
