The 234 yard non-recorded “miss” from some time in space….
Just an excuse to show of Rua - who found it for me…

PS if anyone says this should be in the favourite dog photo thread they are doomed to die - slowly and in great pain…
So you justify posting stuff in the wrong place by shooting them at night and taking a photo in the day....sneaky

At the risk of repeating myself, myself…
They were shot yesterday when yesterday was today thus qualifying for this thread and it being yesterday, today they fall in to the out last night thread.
Good, I’m glad that’s clear then….
Any questions should be sent to Smellydog for twas he who started this (other) thread in the first place.
Meanwhile today being a Friday I am off to my local yacht club for a drink or ten; just glad it’s not yesterday - though then it actually was……

Out today playing with the Zulus V2.
IMHO opinion it is noticeably better in picture and particularly so with the IR; importantly (for me) simplicity of use is an improvement over the original - which I still think is a great bit of kit and real value for money. I have decided that V2 is staying on the sainted triple deuce and the original is moving to my 6.5x55SE - that should be fun….
Now very few of those with what remaining neurons still functioning may recall that for a very short while ol foxy suffered from the occasional Yips when it came to pressing the record button - indeed some SD types even suggested (rather unkindly) that it was normal for my age….
Well, then I discovered how to beat this and indeed the method is the same for the V2 - simply turn it on, press Record and then standby - bless me doesn’t it automatically swing into Record mode as soon as you take it out of Standby. The slight err…. “Issue” is that the buttons layouts are not entirely quite the same….
And so today and as can be seen below you have the shooter “shot” with his own Zulus because he forgot to press the stop recording button. Funny old world innit?

PS
As is safe routine range practice the magazine was empty, removed from the rifle as was the bolt before your eejit hero went into err….action….

You watch you don't trip squinting at your target like that! Did you forget your readers 🥸

Day off today, delivered venison, first drop was to my old keeper mate. A wizard with horses he is, he grew up working them. Can you recognise the breed of this beautiful horse?
IMG_20251208_084439134.webpNext place was the land owner where last week's doe came from then I loaded the strange Beretta!
It's strange in the sense that Berretta to celebrate 300 years of gun making 45 years ago had made by others, not themselves, make a muzzleloader.
They came fully equipped with all manner of accessories and soon got a bad reputation for mis fires on the bottom barrel. The main cause was actually using oil after cleaning which dampens the long flash channel. If it wasn't that it was a poorly sealed flash channel easily recognisable by the scorching of the inletting. Once I fixed the leak the gun became absolutely reliable.

Anyway 17,547 steps today hunting proper wild birds. I got two and missed one.
Chuffed as punch. Old Jess worked well for an untrained old delinquent finding me a lost bird. No retrieving but if I watch her I can nearly read her nose as good as her.
Also, if it's a runner she catches it for me.
So thank you Jess.IMG_20251208_113317.webp
After much walking and hunting and shooting a few squirrels, Jessy's favourite...

I happened on a marsh, it was raining now but I knew there was birds in the marsh, what I didn't know was that the marsh was full of snipe and a few woodcock. What an absolute joy to lift those birds.
I didn't shoot at them but thought the next pair I will mount the gun as if I was to shoot.
Sure enough two lifted to my right and as I mounted the gun two pheasants erupted with them! Brilliant, I got my second bird.

I've had a grand day and must clean the gun.
Boiled water will soon have it clean and dry, ready for another exertion soon I hope.

Lol, spot on with the alteration 👍🏻.
Sorry you are not well. Hopefully it passes soon.
Get some avermectin in you.
Kings ginger I have never tried, do you think I need to have some on standby?
Thanks as ever my friend.

Cheers Smelly - think I will survive - til the next ague….
The King’s Ginger has nothing to do with William’s err…. “brother” (bit like the entire family - apparently) and I advise an initial gentle sip - very warming stuff but to be consumed in moderation…

Sounds lovely....not sure about the," that brings people together," bit. Trying to avoid that....at all costs!

The wife kicked me out the house this afternoon as I was getting in the way, so grabbed my .22/250 and thermal and went to look for a fox.

Never hunt through the day with my thermal but wanted to check out some overgrown bits of wood.

I soon started spotted quite a few squirrels so this afternoon turned into a squirrel hunt with the .22/250 🤣

I shot 3 squirrels with 3 shots and thoroughly enjoyed the stalking aspect as difficult to get on them.

55grn vmax makes a bit of a mess..
