THE PRETEND KEEPER

Had a great day yesterday - beaters had a good few shots and their ratio was twice as rubbish as the regular guns hahahahah

Had my local bird man come for a walk about today and he is buzzing because he has found a tree sparrow amongst our flock of finches - in our area a rare sighting sadly these days

We have hundreds of them. What is rare is twite. Do you see them?

Last day tomorrow, which is timely as the dreaded bird flu has took hold around us again, we’ll be low on numbers tomorrow as with the season finishing on the 1st there’s a lot of people taking up invites on other shoots they beat on, I haven’t got loads left but I’m sure we can have a couple of decent drives and just have a good day out. I’ve invited a few people who don’t regularly shoot driven for a free day out and I might have a go myself if I’ve got enough beaters, best of luck to you all if you are finishing off your season tomorrow 👍IMG_1605.webp

We do the same Stav - get some of the young lads in the line - some who maybe had only a few shots on beaters day
Shot yesterday and had 30 odd - be nice to end with 40/50 today
Had one young chap shoot his first - 2nd 3rd and then 4th pheasant ! So he was buzzing !

We’ll just make it up as we go along today, I’ll see who turns up, I give my gun away all season to friends, the kids, people who just want to have a go, so I think they can beat one or two drives for me today, if we manage around 30 today I’ll be happy with that 👍

Well I've had a grand season and a grand finish. Loads of hens left so hopefully they have some young this year. As ever I'll thin the fox's.
Today I finished with one of my favourite muzzleloaders. My 10g double.
Sadly I lost one bird. I missed two.

Suited and booted ready to go today for beaters day. Plenty of stock on the ground so fingers crossed should get a few shots. Slice of toast a d another coffee then I’m off.

Well…..just one of them days. Good bag, of which I contributed relatively few. Drew badly, first stand the line probably accounted for 50 birds, of which I contributed a partridge as end gun. Took lots of shots behind the next gun as little was over me. Missed them all and knocked my confidence. I had shot well during the week but performed badly on the ‘big’ day. If I connect with the first few birds then all generally goes well, if I don’t then it doesn’t lol. Stretching my barrels first stand was the wrong thing to do in hindsight. I missed, started over thinking and started poking. Anyways day got slightly better but it was not until my final stand of the day that I connected with a couple of decent driven birds. I had shot a handful of birds as part of the walking team going back previously. I made a far better beater than shot that day.

Wing shooting... a funny old game sometimes...!

There will always be another day :)

Well, first time I’ve looked at this thread, mainly ‘cause I’ve zero interest in shooting pheasants.
Nice surprise and very interesting too.
Also, must say, from that picture in the first post, that man certainly looks lik a Stavros!
Thanks, Ken.

Grey partridge on with pairing up here, Covey's splitting.. watched 5 boys arguing over 2 girls this morning - that ratio isn't going to work very well!!
