THE PRETEND KEEPER

Not the best of days, first off I wasn’t even sure I’d make it there in the little van, but she did me proud, we even past a Range Rover that was stuck in the snow 😁
It was a bit of a shame the way the weather was as there was half a dozen guests shooting with us today including a couple of rugby players who only had today that they could come, anyway we started off with a pen drive as it didn’t look good for a full day, there was a fair bit of banging on this drive even though from where I was in the line the birds seemed to be just running around and getting up in the trees, looking confused with all this white stuff
Back to the shed where we poured a bottle of bramble gin and two bottles of Prosecco down there necks, just to take the chill off you understand
Next was two drives around the forestry pen, same story, a good amount of shooting but the birds weren’t for flying, so that was it, the way the weather was it wasn’t looking good for getting off the top if we stayed, we ended on 18 pheasants, 1 woodcock and a pigeon off 3 drivesView attachment 394592View attachment 394593View attachment 394594
I’d rather a poor day outside than being stuck inside.
I’m sure they appreciate yours and others efforts.

Well another shoot day tomorrow and once again the weather looks rubbish, this season is fast becoming a complete nightmare, not only have I had to contend with the weather, wandering birds and forestry ripping trees out while my birds were in the pens, now I have the electric board replacing poles right through my drives, I had a meeting with them this morning as they intend working right through the weekend, anyway after a lengthy discussion and looking at maps we have managed to come to an agreement that they won’t be there tomorrow so the shoot can go ahead. I have had to change things about a bit as the season moves on, making a couple of new feed areas around some thick cover which hopefully will can drive some good birds from, fingers crossed 🤞 IMG_1306.webpIMG_1312.webpIMG_1313.webp

It looks like it’s going to be wild up there tomorrow 😁 if we can get them birds up in that wind they should get a proper shift on

We are out too - could be our first wet day
Season is so far the best we have ever had so cant grumble at all

Pointless being out in those conditions, not an enjoyable day at all , I'm indoors 😄
Always shoots better up there the worse the weather is, they tend to stay in the woods, the down side to having a woodland shoot is they like to bugger off if the weather is nice , as long as you have the right gear on it’s fine,

100 percent agree if the weather is good my birds are out of wood down across fields first thing. We try dogging back in before shoot day . But as stav said if the weather is poor they stay in the woods. We had crap weather last week and our quiet wood shot really well
