THE PRETEND KEEPER

I have racked my brains for a few seasons. option for the workers to advantage over the non working participants
Problem I think you have is if you say you get a few hundred quid difference for doing all work parties. it still doesn't seem fair to me. Half would pay it to do f##k all.

The thing is the ones that turn up every Saturday actually look forward to it and get stuck in. The rest would be a waste of time watching the clock.

When I lose my rag and have a moan I am told it happens in most clubs syndicate etc

You would definitely know if I was a member of your syndicate because sh*t gets done when I’m about 😁

I don’t have a problem with people not doing any of the repairs up there but what is unfair is that the usual suspects still pay the same to be in the syndicate, I seem to have quite a few what I would call office staff now, never done a manual job in their lives and to me, if you are not capable of repairing a pen, or a drinker system or any other of the basic tasks then I don’t think a private shoot syndicate is a place for them, they should just go and pay for days
The other thing that winds me up is the excuse messages I get sent, the one I got from one member took me 5 minutes to read and it basically said I don’t have time to go there until we start shooting
This was my reply to him - DON’T CARE 👍
Syndicates used to be full of farmers, builders, ground workers, mechanics, people who brought good skills to the group, now they are full of people who would struggle to cut their own grass or change a wheel on their car

Dont give up Stav - i think what you maybe need to do is split them into groups and actually give them tasks to complete - the other thing that i did to get people well on side is make sure lots of you play together - go out to the footy - the pub - the odd clay day - make them all friends and make them all feel part of something. I think nothing of texting most of them at 11 pm advising of my latest fox shot - or 6 am as i video a brood gritting on the farm tracks

We have guns / beaters / pickers up come now - sometimes up to 20 a week !

I’ve tried allocating job and nothing gets done when it needs doing, I can’t even get them to bag wheat, they are all very willing when it comes to socialising and a good bunch to be out with but ask them to do anything and there’s no hope, and like bumpy said we could charge them more but they would just pay it
The shoot is not like it was when I joined, I already knew a couple of people in the shoot and they put my name forward to join and then I was asked what I would bring to the shoot, now there’s a lot of what I call “ office staff “ where one person drops out and one of the other members asks if his mate can join who doesn’t know which end of the screwdriver to get hold of and this is the situation we end up in
But like I’ve said they are generally a good bunch that I like being out with

I don't understand shoot members that don't want to get involved be it feeding the birds , fixing pens , habitat management or predator control it's part and parcel of being in the syndicate in my eyes.

That’s my way of thinking, but I can see why they want to be in just for the shooting, they come here and get around 8 day for less than the cost for a day anywhere else and top their season up with a couple of good paid for days, my shoot captain is in 3 syndicates that cost him around 4 grand that gets him about 24 days shooting at a cost of about £160 a day, when you look at it that way it’s a very cheap way to go shooting if that’s all you are interested in, sadly I’ve got a few of them in my shoot

Totally agree Nick - to me the crack doing the work and seeing the life you can create is better than the actual shooting much of the time

After our success in the Purdey awards we were asked if we would like to enter Schoffel's conservation awards - Just heard back we have made the initial shortlist - and had 3 broods of ducks hatch with over 20 ducklings today - Happy happy
Sorry been busy and not kept up with this thread.
@jall55 Massive congratulations on these achievements. I hope your chuffed with the acknowledgment and makes all the graft sweeter.

I made this today out of some scrap angle iron and a looks like some sort of conveyor roller of the farm tip, weights about 80 kg.
going to tow behind the quad to flatten rides in our rush fields.View attachment 424488

Looks a good thing for that job mate - is that for the birds or for beaters walking through Phil ?

Our birds came today - and in fairness to our supplier - i say it every year - THE BEST EVER !

Our duck shoot is in its third year. This year, we bought day old ducklings and released them at about 3 weeks. It's my job to feed them weekdays and weekends it's the land owner who feeds them. Our main area is a relatively new wetland created about four years ago. This wetland is about five hectares. This year, we have released 600 ducks, and with the wild population, there should be coming up to a thousand ducks by the first shooting day.
This year, we have also released two hundred ducks on a lake on a neighbouring ground. This lake is deep, and the wetland is relatively shallow. Because of the depth of this new lake, we feed the ducks of a raft.
Last year we had a return of over 50% . One of the problems we had was getting the guns to the hunting stands at the same time. It's amazing how people can't even follow clear prited instructions. I've done new signage for this year, hoping that will help.
We have managed to get together a really good retrieving team. Our after hunt food is great as well.
