Sadly a sign of the times which says more about our Postal Service than anything..... I tend to buy the ST from our local Tesco and I can have a quick flick through to see if it's worth getting.

Sadly, ST isn't what it used to be.

Yes - i think the editor try hard - He seems a lovely chap - but every story now is along the lines of

I went out in my fancy....... - with my special ....... loaded with ...... wearing .........and i put it in my .......game bag

Its all advertising

The old writers and they do still have some like Lindsay Waddel - Laurence Catlow and Mike Swann - really made you feel you were sat in that hedge or stood on that peg !
My 2 favourites - Colin Wilcox and the great John Humphries
I keep saying to the editor to reprint 3/4 articles each week - but maybe times have changed a bit
I do enjoy the vintage times page the best

Sounds like most of the Youtube channels. Oh look at my nice new rifle, new clothes, new kit...quick bit of shooting...then back to kit reviews....If I want to watch a kit review I ll search for one ... want to actually see shooting on a shooting related Youtube post :)

I m not joking when I say my favourite bit of Shooting Times is the crossword.

You do get the odd good article but as it's just as jal55 describes it.

My pet hates about ST is the use of inappropriate library photographs and the errors, a few of which are absolute howlers. I put a lot of this down to poor editing by someone with only limited shooting knowledge and experience.

Sadly a mere shadow of it’s formal self and about 25% of the content it once had.
Where have the old country folk and real characters gone? Gough Thomas was a mine of information and like others above I always looked forward to Colin Willock’s, John Humphrey’s and a few others’ I can no longer recall, pages - especially the latest episode of ‘Dudley (?)- the worst dog in the world”. Saying that I think Dudley spread it’s genes far and wide - even to this side of the Irish Sea…

Sadly towards the end Colin Willock (Town Gun) started to loose the plot but John Humphries (Country Gun) kept it up even writing from his hospital deathbed.
I used to wish that I had a school master like Country Gun.

Keep thinking to cancel my subscription & put the money saved into post code lottery 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️
Who knows mite do it this January
New Year’s resolution

Gave up on it when the voice of shooting started using their contribution as an opportunity to bash the shooting community,!

👍 only started this thread because I miss the crossword!

I started reading Shooting Times in the mid 1970's. It was full of well written, informative and entertaining content by Colin Willock (Town Gun), John Humphies (Country Gun), Fred J Taylor, Gough Thomas and many others. It reached a new low for me when a recent article about rough shooting included the writer's choice of flat cap.
