The UK Squirrel Season Is All But Upon Us

I’ve been known to wait an hour or two to get a squirrel in my sights but that is (was) true dedication.

Season for Greys? It is like saying it is the season for romancing when the Bloom is in bloom (its yellow flowers are in bloom all year round).

Anywhere from 3 to 9 a day every day, with the odd gaps as new families move in. still waiting for the Reds to return, but the effect on improving the numbers of song birds and fruit trees is spectacular. A 0.17 HMR is your friend when they are on the ground, and they don't like the trusty 12 bore side by side up them when in the trees. I have put the HMR exit wound on the other side of the animal, for the sake of anyone squeamish that wanders onto this site.

I see places around that advertise their Red squirrels in their hotel brochures but show a picture of a Grey, just because the Greys have got a reddish tinge on parts of their coat in late summer! Even national newspapers do it.

I managed 5 in the pouring rain yesterday which brings my total to about 20 so far this season. My youngest came too for the first time carrying a 410. He's at that stage in life where he can shoot but can't smile for a photo😂😂
