The ultimate justification for a new rifle.

Last week i bought a MagPul Hunter short action stock for my Ruger American Predator 5.56. It was $300 and is a nicely built unit. Unfortunately, it doesn not work with 5.56 even when the proper AICS type mags are used. This left me with a very desirable stock and no rifle to use it with. I'm in the city visiting my girlfriend and i get a text from MTLEADFARMER that one of the shops has Ruger American Predators in 6.5 Creedmoor for just over $400. I go in for a look but they were sold out of those so end up walking out with one that cost just $10 more because it had a flat dark earth colored stock. On the next stop I find a $70 set of Leupold 30mm High rings for $24.50 so they come along. I pick up a short section of Pic rail to mount a bipod on, some sale priced Norma 130 grain Match and head home to assemble my rifle.

Yesterday i go to the range and it's sunny and warm right to the point where I staple up the first target at 25 yards for my rough zero. Then the clouds blew in and the temp dropped 20 degrees. I get the rounds more or less centered and head to the 100 yard line as the wind picks up speed. I put up a target and lie down to shoot prone. I fire two shots for effect, make my correction witrh numb fingers, and settle in to fire my remaining three rounds into a quarter-inch ctc.

If the warm fuzzy feeling that kind of accuracy brings about isn't worth dropping $750 on a rifle you really don't have a use for, I don't know what is. :thumb:~Muir

Just makes me jealous that we cannot just do that here in UK, I am all for licencing but just wish it could be a bit more flexible than it is regards new purchases.
Merry Christmas all :)

It doesn't seem right, does it? Luckily, the only person i need to justify a purchase to is the (now ex) wife and myself. I shot the Ruger again today with that excellent Norma ammo. Five shot clusters from a bipod when I did my part. All under MOA. I may try this rifle at long range, but, who has ever heard of a $700 long range target rifle??
Impossible.

PS: I used the MagPul bipod on this rifle. It is very good indeed. As steady as my Atlas at half the price.

I must have been pretty tired to typo the wrong signature. I will try to get a photo on board. Merry Christmas, y'all.

Very nice. I’m seriously considering replacing my old 22-250 M77 MkII with one of those. The Magpul Hunter stock and bipod would be the icing on the cake if I could source them here in the UK. When is ITAR going to be sorted for sporting goods?

I don't know about ITAR other than it's pain in the a&& when you have friends abroad.
The Ruger Americans now come as AICS (or AR 15 in 5.56) magazine feed in the Predator and Ranch models. In the past I have voiced my displeasure with Ruger rifles -especially the 77 series - but these American Series rifles really shoot. I now have five of them in centerfire and all shoot way above their price tag. I've never seen an inaccurate one. I know that they make the Predator in 22-250 because i saw one this week. They are not the swiss watch of riflery, but they are sweet shooters..~Muir

Agree about the accuracy of the American series as I have an American Ranch Rifle in 300BLK. No frills but it’s a tack driver in an easy to carry around package, even with a moderator and scope with NV add-on. Looking to set the 22-250 up in a similar fashion - but that Hunter stock really does look interesting.
