didnt like them

decided to throw caution to the wind and splashed out on some Fjaalraven Vidda (Patrick- thanks for the heads up about Nordic Outdoor, must have walked past there 20 times and not seen it.)

a little thin in the material department and has too many poppers for my liking but closer than most to what I am after

now to break them in!

I'm currently giving the Stealth Gear extreme photographers trousers a run out. I've been wearing them since maybe September/early October and have not been at all impressed. For a start they are noisy with all the little tags on the zips rattling about plus the bottoms of the legs seem to be made of a material designed to make maximum noise when heather or similar rubs against it. Mine have not been very waterproof and build quality is also below what might be expected. I've also found them pretty cold to wear in winter, not helped by the water that gets in.

On a positive note the knee pads are great and have saved me many a bruised knee and although I was less than impressed with the quality of workmanship they haven't actually fallen apart in the months I've been wearing them. I often get through trousers in a matter of a few weeks so this is no small matter.

I think they are a good idea and nearly work but they are let down by some details that I just can't overlook.

I managed to get some of the last Harkila "grizzly brush" trousers having finally destroyed my old pair. Despite feeling light weight the old pair lasted a long time and worked really well for me. Some people were put off by the rather light colour cammo pattern but the truth is many cammo patterns, even the green of the photographers trousers, are too dark and I think the Harkila grizzly brush worked very well indeed on most ground. If you can get a pair, and they were selling for around £70 as end of line items, they are well worth a punt though be sure to check out the cammo pattern first as it may not suit everyone.

yes, agree with the material choice.
these Fjallraven ones are a little "swishy"
fine when walking but not been knee deep in bracken or heather yet but suspect they wll be a little noisy

Why is it so hard to find a pair of trousers that are not £300, hewn from a solid block of some man-made plastic or lined with shiney nylon!!
I just want a pair of trousers that are comfortable, hard wearing, don't rustle like a tesco bag, don't make you sweat like a rapist in court and that I don't have to sell a kidney to afford!!

I searched all the exhibitors at the Kelos fair and jsut when I thought I found some that looked Ok I looked inside to find a teflon/nylon/polyester liner!! or a six figure price tag!! or they were 44" waist and a 30" leg!!

They don't have to be totally waterproof, I am not going seafishing off dogger bank, just wandering through some woods!

I know exactly what you are talking about...
I just ended up a few years ago with the PINEWOOD KILIMANJARO trousers... I wear them all year long (in winter days with some functional underwear), working, walking trough the woods, they are good and after the first wash you dont get sweatty in them. They are not this expensive and I can highly recommend them for active people in the woods. BUT they are nothing to sit on a stand or highseat for hours... Too cold....
I now own 4 pairs of these and wear them really every day, in combination with some good functional underwear (also summer and winter days, short or long), they are my first choice!

They have hunting clothing and although not as quiet as some makes they are cheap enough and pretty rugged.

Many years ago i had 2 pairs of Moleskin trousers made by a firm in Yorkshire. Heavy weight cloth with double knees and seat. i use them for nearly all my hunting and dog work. Only use the Härkila prohunter when standing out in the forest hunting on damp days.

I got a pair of harkila pro shooter from John Norris a couple of months ago for seventy quid... Very comfy, quiet and seem like they will last me a good while... And no sweaty spuds as they're not lined, maybe worth a look? The trousers that is, not my spuds

Excellent trousers. I got a pair from swillington for £50 in a sale. I took them to a local seamstress and the were taken up gor £7.. They only have very large sizes now.
