Thermal Hot Swap Zero Repeatability

Hi All,

I am wondering how repeatable say a Pulsar Thermal scope with the multiple zero options is for holding zero between numerous rifles? Lets say:-

Rifle 1 - .223 Zeroed on profile 1
Rifle 2 - 17hmr Zeroed on profile 2
Rifle 3 -.25 FAC air Zeroed on profile 3

Is it actually accurate to swap the scope between different guns and the zero remain intact?

I would like to buy a new £4000+ thermal but it would mean that I would need to use it across all my rifles to justify it. But I am sceptical about this function being accurate.

Is anyone actually doing this or does it require a zero check every time and adjustments to suit?

I use a XM38 Thermion between a 243 and 308, profile A and profile B.

Both rifles are Tikka T3X, both have Leupold QD system bases with the same spacing and matching rings for the system and I also have regular scopes in these matching rings, one zeroed to each rifle.

Been using the system about 3 years I think. I swap about all the time and no loss of zero at any time.

I'm about to do something similar with an XP50 2 on a 223 to switch with a regular glass optic on Leupold QRW2 rings and picatinny rail. Just have to remember to place the rings on the right/same part of the rail each time!

Pulsar thermion
That’s what I’m thinking of getting so nice to know that’s one that is working!
I really love my Nightforce NX8 but while I’m lamping and my mate next to me is on the thermal it’s just not in the same game.

I do like the thermion and it’s bagged me a fair few fox’s that I wouldn’t of got with traditional I/R night-vision… but there are better thermals out there, mines just started playing up, the function dial on the side is temperamental🤬

What one would you recommend?

Have you considered the Pulsar front mounted Thermal Krypton, advantage just clip it on for after dark the rest of the time shoot your days scopes. I have one and have had no issues with zero

Good friend of mine uses a hik and senopex that Ian on here sells… I’ve looked through both on nights out and either out performs mine!
Neither of the above will win beauty contests but the picture quality is brilliant

So I’ve took the plunge and bought the Pulsar XP50 Pro and a set of Innomount mounts.
Can’t wait for it to arrive and get going.

I’m probably going to buy some more Innomount mounts and keep my Nightforce scope in case I go day shooting and don’t want to run the thermal.

Excited like a kid at Christmas waiting for the delivery tomorrow 🤣

Its cock all to do with the scope but is about the quality and repeatability of the mounts. The profiles are purely digitial zeros.

I swap my ATN Mars4 640 between my 22lr, 222, 243, 6.5 and 300wm on my blaser using a contessa mount.

So an update on this. The mounts are absolutely fine. But the rails I have on 2 different rifles are different so that’s cocked up my plan for now 🙈

I did remove the scope off my .223 and put it back on and it was bang on zero again so happy with that.

Just got to buy a full matching set of rails for all my rifles now to ensure repeatability and I should be there.

Update tonight. I had my scope off for charging. Mounted it back on and went out on the foxes. Had a clean miss at 90 yards!

To say I’m lacking confidence in the ability to remove and replace the scope successfully is an understatement! I only have one zero set at the moment so I can’t be on the wrong profile!

I have a Britannia rail for the Howa arriving this week which should help as I’ve no idea on the brand and quality of the ones that are installed currently that came with the rifle.

Still. I feel as though I was miles off the fox as it didn’t even run.

Just because you only have one zero set, doesn’t mean you can’t be wrong.
I had similiar and couldn’t work out why I messed up a close shot on a fox, packed up and went home unhappy.
In cold light of morning I looked again and was on profile B which I had never set up,
Somehow, in the dark fumbling around I had changed profile.

I will double check when I get home from work tonight. But I only press on and the mag button when I’m out. So I shouldn’t have got the wrong profile at all.
