Thermal scope advice

Foxes can be a pain to find at night. I spot with the accolade thermal binoculars, the time it takes to put them down and get on the fox whens its running in full pelt. I can be 100yards from where you last thought you saw it.

What model pulsar do you have
I'm using the pulsar xm50 at the moment but i still favor my longbow I've still not found anything I like better ! but I'm forcing myself to use the thermal scope it does the job but if I had to sell one it would be the thermal

Exactly I've had them pop out of ditches less than 50 yards away and by the time I find them in the NV they could be gone to 120 or 130 and have most likely figured out something is up and don't stop I thought the thermal might make finding them between say 40 yards and a 100 easier

Got to laugh when some say the average distance is 350yards away. Most of mine are 50 to 100yards.
I would not take a shot at 350yds but I very rarely get one to come within 50yds or rarely bump into one that close, I would think that 150 to 180yds is about average on my permission, Like the comment above, don't get suckered into the must have a Pulsar, yes they hold the price well on resale but there is some excellent scopes out there for a lot less money, I have had the HIK TQ50 for a while now and I won't be changing it in a hurry its that good.

I had the thermion 2xg50 lrf. Had issue with pip in that it had different poi to main reticle. In regards to the image my infiray th50 v2 lrf is far better.

Hi all

Looking for some advice on my first thermal scope I'll be using it mainly for foxes out to 150 yards 200 at the most at the minute I'm between the pulsar thermion xg50 and xp50 I won't be going out in bad thermal conditions if I can avoid it anyway so was thinking the xg50 but I don't know I'd like to hear from people with experience with thermals.
My best bit of advice is don’t buy something you’re not going to use to its full potential, no point paying top dollar if you’re only shooting 200yds

If it's a choice between the Pulsar Thermion XP50 and the XG50, then the higher base magnification on the XG is definitely worth it for longer range foxing
If you open it up to other manufacturers, then the HIK Thunder TQ50 V2.0 is far and away the best bang for your buck thermal scope available at the moment
Same magnification and field of view as the XG50 but a rather different image presentation
The pulsar image tends to be low contrast and like looking through a net curtain, but there is normally a lot of in target detail and background detail
The HIK image is much brighter with higher contrast and overall much "punchier" (as can seen from the video stills above)
That makes detecting hot spots and potential targets easier, but as can be seen from those same video stills there is an outline of the fox, but no detail within that outline, or much background detail
The differences in the image seen on the screen is down to the sensors they use and how the signals from those sensors are processed before reaching the screen
Some prefer the Pulsar image, whilst others prefer the HIK image
I have used a Thermion 2 XP50 LRF pro and currently have a Thermion 2 XG50 LRF on my 22 and a HIK Thunder TQ50 on my 22-250
The XG50 has the ballistic calculator which makes shooting longer range bunnies with subsonic ammo much easier than estimating range and holdover. while the 22-250 shoots flat enough that a ballistic calculator doesn't provide much benefit

Cheers

Well lads I fell asleep on the sofa and never woke till now 😂 alot of good information and advice to read when I woke. The stills taken by the Thunder TQ50 definitely look good enough to me as I say my furthest shot will be 200 MAX mostly between 100 and 150 I must look into the HIK a bit more.

Out of interest is the image the same in the HIK Panther the same as the Thunder only with a rangefinder
