Thermal scopes on deer

I can honestly say I have shot hundreds of foxes in the last 6 years during the day without any lures, baits or callers. I can count the number of foxes I've shot at night in the last decade on one hand.
Foxes are predominantly a nocturnal thing in the UK. Personally I've shot more in the evening light than darkness, but thats because I'm not a dedicated foxer.

As a keeper I've shot a lot of foxes at all times of the day. When the pheasants are walking round!

In Scotland, my opinion is that if you are working within a licence, Lamping and Out of Season, then a thermal should be granted. Having shot plenty under a lamp, they soon get wise. Roe Doe with twins or triplets for example, if you don’t get the family group, next time under a lamp, the remainders will not hang about.. Reds don’t seen as clever as Roe to understand the disruption of a lamp and will often give you another go, but after a couple of lamping goes on a heard, they learn.

Dead is dead, it’s been said before. If you don’t agree, don’t do it, iron sights, telescopic sights, Binos, rangefinders, blah blah blah they all aid to a kill, and that what we all do.
