Thermal vs night vision

Am thinking of moving over to thermal from night vision to thermion 2 xq38 from sight mark wraith was after peoples thoughts on switching over already use pulsar thermal spotter and the wraith has accounted for well over 50 foxes in the last 12 months

In some instances thermal is so much more beneficial than NV
Zero chance of Charlie being spooked by IR(doesn't happen often) or he may not come in closer once he's spotted it and stay out of range
Zero chance of the IR being cut out or glare back
Target acquisition can be a lot quicker
However ID on a fox is 100% with NV
Might shoot a few more with thermal over the year depends if you think it's worth the big jump in money to you or not.
I've shot thousands with top end Nv and thermal and both work. I do like to look at the fox rather than the heat signature of a fox so am now back using the Pulsar Digex C50 which is bloody awesome! I have a wraith but that's now on the 22LR

To be fair Steve was thinking along the same lines for the extra few foxes is it worth the extra money was also considering the pulsar c50 how do you rate it next to the wraith?

Not sure the picture quality is any better but it's just a much nicer unit to use all round. Brilliant at first and last light without IR. Much wider field of view, bigger better screen with finer sharper reticles. The list goes on!

I use a Wraith on the .243 alongside a thermal spotter for foxing and have shot plenty with it, but have used thermal scopes on friends’ rifles when out with them.
Would I switch to thermal scope if I could afford to? Most definitely.

using the 22 hornet tuesday night with normal night vision grassed a couple them the mist cut in and that was it for two hours, got the other day scoped hornet out 30 yds max with 3 different colours, could see everything with accolades memo to oneself get another thermal scope for the hornet and or chuck the duce in the motor which has a trail on top

I need another TI scope .

I would stick with thermal for a spotter and night vision for a rifle scope - I just find it too hard to positively identify with a thermal scope.

Have a friend who had a thermion and he went back to a wraith as it was just too dodgy trying to positively ID some things before a shot.

Have you tried a Pard 008?

Thermal spotter and nv scope for me. It’s easy to miss undergrowth and saplings that may cock up a shot with a thermal

Have a friend who had a thermion and he want back to a wraith as it was just too dodgy trying to positively ID some things before a shot.

My thermion scope allows accurate ID - but to be honest i have already ID using the thermal binos and i only on the scope for the 3 seconds of the shot

Maybe keep the wraith but upgrade the spotter to the binos as you can use them all night long and not suffer dark eye either

Can you see anything other than a silhouette on a thermion? We found it can be difficult to tell between fox, badger, deer sometimes depending on the position and terrain.

Honestly mine is clear as a bell

Up to 150 yards - you can see the foxes tail

The key to it us use it and gain the experience and see how things are

The first time out i was jumping about thinking mice in the hedge row were foxes but now i can tell at the slightest glance

The thermals really are incredible

I'd use a thermion out to about 100m but honestly I'd take a pulsar c50 over a thermion scope not worth the price tag in my opinion

I have a pretty decent thermal spotter, Hikmicro Gryphon GH35. Frequently I have thought, thats a fox! Only to then confirm with my NV that its a badger on speed or a really pointy eared lamb.

Thermal is great for scanning, target acquisition and range finding if you have that feature. But NV will always give you a better picture, even if you spend the big bucks.

But the major factor for me is, I leave my rifle on the bonnet of my car, hanging off my sticks or on its bipod when prone. I then stand, sit or lay down and scan my arcs with the thermal. Do you want to scan your arcs with a rifle? Even a super lightweight rifle will soon become heavy doing this.

So for me I cant see myself ever using anything other than a Thermal spotter paired with an NV optic.

the wraith is good so never bothered with the pard liked the solid feel of the unit mate has a pard feels bit
