Thick timber and swamp hunting cartridges

I agree. 9.3 doesnt offer much in the way of bullets, while the 35 cal does. Im beginning to lean toward the cz fs 8x57.
I did locate a parker and hale german receiver that was bored to 358 win. Im just not sure on the rebore over all.

Otherwise the 358 would be a custom affair.

The 9.3 x 62 is a fantastic round, with bullets available from 184gn > 291gn, with bullets circa 232, 250, and 285gn being the most common. Barnes, Geco, Hornady, Norma, Nosler, RWS, to name a few, all offer a selection of 9.3mm /.366 bullets. And you only need ONE that shoots well ;)

Mine is a 20" barrel, I like the 232gn, loaded to circa 2700fps / 3750ftlbs. It's excellent through brush & cover, and a favourite for driven boar in Europe.

I'm so cheap that I also need reasonably priced components for training rounds. 9.3 is far more expensive than 35cal, but you can still save some of your money and shoulder by going 193gr S&B SP or 185gr Lapua OTM bullets. S&B doubles as light hunting load, but I'd keep the impact speed at 2000fps or slower (the bullet is made for antique 9.3x72R). At 2200fps it totally disintegrates.

I have decent amount of both, and paid about 50 cents a piece. Prices have gone up some. You can also use faster powder like N110, so additional savings.

OP living in US, the situation regarding bullet options is not nearly as bright as in European continent.

You can buy 9.3mm bullets for sensible money, if you look around, but I agree with the component cost, although powder is the bigger PITA in the UK

Problem with the 9.3 is most bullets are far to tough for most of the game we have around here. Ppu makes a good bullet, along with norma and rws which is next to impossible to find here state side. Honeslty i would take the metric cartridge before the whelen. Simply because that seems to be where I am at the moment. The 8x57 caught my eye and for a bit less than I could get a ruger amercian for, figured why not.

Our local smith doesnt seem to want to do much outside of putting a barrel on a rem 700 and dropping it in a stock. Waiting to hear back from a smith thats about 2 hours away. The rear scope base holes are drilled way off. Hopefully after getting that straightened out itll shoot. If not a new barrel will be in the works.

Let us know how It goes mate, best of luck!👍

Currently at the smith. Got the receiver tigged up and he is drilling/tapping it. Ill take it to the range as soon as its back. If it still doesn't shoot I may thread a new barrel on.

Agree. 9.3x62 has big range of bullets. Lots of companies make them. Slow moving and heavy. I like it as it seems to not deflect so bad when shooting in thick stuff. See my boar post for blood trail picture !

Well after a long stay with the smith, the gun would not shoot fectory s and b spce. Best group was 5”. Did a simple load up with sierra smk 200gr and h4350 to book coal and achieved a3 shot moa group.
