Thorn in dogs pad

Terrier stood on a whopper of a thorn this morning couldn’t believe my eyes when I pulled it out must have been 1.5inch long. Typical terrier just stood there lifted his paw up no fuss unlike the spaniel but obviously hurt on the way out. Came home gave it a warm bath with some salty water as was in some really shitty mud.

I’m away this week for a few days and don’t anticipate a problem but just to placate the missus just keep an eye on it check for excessive licking, hot spot etc?

Normally wouldn’t bother but this thing was huge and whilst it seemed intact wonder if it could have snapped off on the bone.

Cheers

one of my spaniels started limping last day of season, one lad lifted him, other took hold of the foot and pulled an inch thorn out,
I was about to roll him over and pull it,
dozy sod just let them get on with it,
16 month old and happy as larry,

Always carried a pen knife whilst working any of my dogs, if they start limping particularly in wet muddy areas you can’t always see anything straight away but if l scraped the mud off the pads from back to front the offending thorn would usually show itself.

If you got the thorn out completely, he should be as fine as you or I after a blackthorn. Maybe a bit of infection in the pad, but will probably soon clear up.

Thanks I’m sure he will be fine when cleaned it I couldn’t see anything and he’s showing no ill effects this morning.
