Ticks and Lyme Disease - Timely reminder

Its spring time, the bucks are out and so are the little bastard Ticks.

Get a can of Permethrin spray and spray your shooting clothing - do it today.

Tuck things in and avoid rolling around in the heather, long grass or bracken (even if he or she is adorable) - sit on a rock, log or a seat.

And check yourself for ticks, know how to remove them and know the signs of Lyme Disease.

Lyme is nasty - I suffer from it and every few weeks just have to give up and sleep for 48 hours to get rid of the aches, fever and complete lethargy.

Aye the same here John, my two dogs are tick magnets just now. I seem to be checking them every day now and finding a few most times:(

Always a good reminder. :thumb:

Muntie I took last week was covered in them including a monster on his left eye.

I just get mine from Tiso or Cotswold Outdoor. It’s the stuff used to treat mosquito nets etc and travel focused outdoor shops sell it.

Has the added benefit of keeping horse flies and midges away as well.

This eBay offer looks good. Lasts 6 weeks or 6 washes.

Rovince trousers & shirt have been good for me with insect repellent on exposed skin.

Thats what I use. Been very effective since I started using it a couple of years ago.

Do about a bottle about every 6 months but I am pretty liberal.

Imported and sells out fast.

I use that Sawyer stuff as well but I don't trust the 6 wash thing so lazily use that as an excuse to never wash my shooting kit ha ha ha. It stands up all on its own. Don't spray it on indoors. It gets in ya throat a bit.

Dammit perhaps I should have bought some before posting the link!

I usually bring Sawyers back any time i go to the USA.

Don't forget permethrin is toxic to fish and cats.

Just hope you are aware that it is also carcinogenic, probably OK For short periods but I would but not recommend it for regular nor prolonged use.

The carcinogenic risk looks very low & has only been raised after tests with mice that were fed it daily for two years. Only 1% is absorbed through skin if applied directly. The yanks even spray their crops with it! And treat the army’s clothes with it due to its effectiveness & careful consideration of risk V benefit.

For me that’s a much lower risk than the chance of me getting Lyme disease when I live in a high risk area & know people that have suffered Lyme disease.

If recent news is to be believed bacon is carcinogenic & I’ve lived on that for years so am doomed already!
