Hi,

Has anyone seen the new Tikka optisup moderators yet? They seem to be an over the barrel design available in a .30 cal model and a .25 cal model.
I'm currently looking for a new mod for a 30-06 and thought it might be worth a look if they are available here.

I've seen one and it comes with the Tikka T3 Roughtec rifle package I bought. They look well made by Sako (according to the engraving on the mod). I thought it was a Hausken initially. They're coloured a mottled black and dark grey colour. Over barrel design at 50mm diameter with about 125mm forward extension. They come in 2 sizes .25 and .30.
I am waiting for a my FAC to return after renewing it so have not yet picked up the rifle. I'm a little concerned as my rifle is a .223 and I'm thinking a dedicated .223 mod will be quieter?
I've done loads of Google trawling but found nothing about them.

Yes it will, the closer the apeture is (in diameter) to the bullet, the more the expanding gas will be contained and the BANG suppressed.
I use .20 cal moderators with my .22, .223 and .22-250 chambered rifles and the 'hole' is 6.6mm and the bullet is 5.68mm
I have (prior to my bright coloured lableing) gone out with the .25 cal baffle stack and the .223 is definately louder with the bigger exit hole.

Thank you. That was my thinking I just don't know why Sako only made .25 and .30 cal mods. Surely a .22 mod added to the range would have covered all the bases?
I've now asked the RFD to source a .223 Stalon X108 and am waiting for an answer. GMK have a lead time of 3-4 months to order one in 5/8x24 thread .
The only people who seem to have them readily available from stock are Wildcat, so it might end up being an Evo.

If Tikka is happy with one action size fits all (putting 223 into 30-06 length actions) you can hardly be surprised they’re not going to have multiple moderator bore sizes. TBH I’m surprised they don’t just have a 30cal for everything

Are they 'happy' from a noise reduction standpoint or a commercial one ?

I take the view that all actions from Beretta (Sako/tikka) are sadly now either manufacturing cost reduction or marketing led. This would fall in the former.
Sorry I just get annoyed when I think what a great company it used to be
That’s why i shoot a 695 ❤️

If I’m really dispassionate I can’t work out if it’s our purchasing habits that have led this or their marketing or probably both.
A perfect illustration are the optiloc ring mounts which were actually good. Not stupidly high and attach direct to the dovetails - discontinued.
