There are vegetables in the UK but with the increases in energy, fert etc they cost more. The supermarkets refuse to pay more and feed us the line about the problem being in other countries. Honest guv, we are doing our best.

My wife's into completing puzzles, extremely tough ones at that. She's just struggling with one now and asked me to name five fruits beginning with the letter T. I'm not sure if I'm correct but said tangerines, also tomatoes (I think there classed as fruit). I'm racking my brains with the other three, any help would be appreciated. We can't get the results until tomorrow afternoon. If the answers are not obvious I'll report back on this one. Thanks in advance.

Isn't a fruit any seed-bearing body that develops behind a blossom? In which case, a tomato is most definitely a fruit. As is a tcourgette and a tpumpkin.

Post pandemic, so many more people are buying online. Why can't we have a farmers cooperative where consumers can buy direct from the producer and cut out the monopolising, profiteering supermarket middleman? Like Ocado but without the corporate leech distorting the market.

When I lived in Tayside, we used to get an organic box delivery every two weeks.....always a bit of a mystery what would be in it, but usually fruit and veg in season as well as eggs. Great idea and a wee bit more expensive than the usual shops, but at least you knew you were supporting the local farmers.
To go back to the OP, we have friends in the Netherlands and the standing joke there is that they send the tasteless rubbish Tomatoes to the UK as their own purchasers won't touch out of season, tasteless mush, but apparently we do! Bring back seasonal food!

For me, tomatoes aren't just a salad veg. Lycopene (the red colouring) is very good for your health - particularly men's health as a lycopene-rich diet it has been found to significantly reduce the risk of prostate cancer. So, as I mentioned earlier, I use a lot of pasata and tomato puree, both of which are cheap as chips and always freely available because they're preserved. They also have the highest concentration of lycopene.

I also buy big bags of sun-dried tomatoes from a local Grape Tree wholefood store. Supermarkets charge through the nose for these. Grape Tree bulk bags work out much cheaper and one bag lasts for months. Great in salads as well, if they're rehydrated first by soaking and the water used in the dressing.

In summer, I'll buy farm shop locally grown toms wherever possible. I might try growing my own when I move. At my old house we had three greenhouses, but in the new one they would have to be grown outside and I'm not sure how well that will work in the south west of Scotland.

Thanks everyone with your input and knowledge regarding my question to the SD membership. The Tangerines and Tomatoes are correct answers, the other three are Tinned Apricots,Tinned Pears and my favourite Tinned fresh fruit salad.
