Top ten war films

Damn! Forgot to include Zulu in my list. Should be there.

Yeah, why no smiley faces any more? Is it only when I comment on the computer rather than a 'phone? They seem to be greyed out.

Any order -
Defiance
The Twelfth Man (Netflix.... read ‘The Shetland Bus’ first :thumb: )
We Were Soldiers
Fury
12 Strong
Das Boot
Gallipoli
Valkyrie
13 Hours
Kajaki

All well worth a watch IMHO but loved ‘The Twelfth Man’, probably due to local history.

Hard to find and a bit dated now, but there was a HBO film/documentary called ‘Dear America - Letters Home from Vietnam’ - very poignant.

I’d also add:

Flags of our Fathers
The Monuments Men
Dr Strangelove
Adolf Hitler: My Part in His Downfall
Inglorious Bastards

Dunkirk and 1917 are clear classics in the making.

I agree with almost everything - there are two 'navy' films worthy of mention, but not listed - Sink the Bismark and The Battle of the River Plate.
Zulu and Isandlwana were great.
Battle of Britain naturally
Eleven o'clock High
The Longest Day - I wonder if the 'cricket' was a historical fact ?
There was film with David Niven as the pilot, about the development of the spitfire ?
etc

Oh, speaking of David Niven, probably another great film that is worthy of mention is "A matter of Life and Death". Superb. The stairway to Heaven pre-dated Led Zeppelin's song by about 30 years or so.

Seen so many over the years mostly on a Sunday afternoon when visiting granny.Which was the one where they had clickers to communicate with but it also sounded like a rifle bolt.

The Longest Day. Where Richard Todd who was at the Orne River bridges on D-Day played the role of Major Howard giving orders to the officer who on the real D-Day had been Todd himself.
