Top tens films???

The one with Errol Flynn and David Niven? They go through so much whisky in that film that you feel drunk just watching it!
That is the remake. I was thinking of the original Dawn Patrol, with Douglas Fairbanks, Jr. He, like his father, were the original acrobatic swashbucklers of action films, in the days before much trick photography, much less animation.

Wings, which won the first Academy Award for Best Picture, was made earlier, in 1927. Its writer and director, William Wellman, was a pilot in the Great War, and the flying scenes are truly thrilling. Being a silent movie, it lends itself to action and photographic skill.

The next step in this progression, and a pretty good film of WWI flying, but a modern psychological drama, is The Blue Max.

I should have referenced "Dangerous Moonlight". Currently to be viewed for free c/o the BBC i-player.

Simply love the cinematography and very much before its time feel of the opening 10 minutes.

Give it a spin.

The original "Ben Hur" film in black and white, and silent, is a landmark.

Deliverance - was fishing and hunting the area where it was filmed, from before, and ever since. I posted some helmet cam video of shooting the Chattooga River, about 2 years ago.

I watched Fury last night and enjoyed that, any other fans? American Sniper was also excellent!

Disappointed by American Sniper and thought Fury was okay, although the scene in the town square was a little embarrassing.

How about this for a slight twist: movies that are undoubtedly superb masterpieces, but for whatever reason you could never watch more than once.

For instance - anyone watched Requiem for a Dream?

Another one that went under the net:

Superb film!

I was trying to think of some others I'd put in the same bracket... how about Kynodontas.
