Town fox, catch and release

One of my fishing customers had spent some time in Norway. They shot a Lynx and found it had a tracking/gps device attached, so they found a bridge over a railway line and dropped it into an open top freight wagon.

I heard an interesting comment in wales a few years ago. (a) suspicions were aroused when parties of foxes were seen in one location and were easily lamped and (b) foxes which are trapped and kept in cages tend to urinate on themselves to the point that the saturated fur becomes bleached, which was a giveaway in this instance.

Everyone carries a 'phone with a camera on it these days, and there are many stories about van loads of foxes being released, but so far no-one seems to have got a photo. Funny that.
It's always a mate's mate's girlfriend's dad's neighbour's landlord's friend's wife's brother who saw it happen. He told it to a bloke in the pub who told it to me, so it must be true. Only his phone battery was flat that night, otherwise he'd have got a picture.

Look at some of the wildlife sanctuary websites, they say on quite a few that they release the foxes after they recover. Also they say that they rescue hundreds each year, they would not have space to keep them

This topic has been covered before and plenty shooting folk have witnessed releases. Many keepers will tell you that there are no foxes on their ground and then suddenly they shoot 10 in one field.....go figure that out.
I spoke to a farmer near me once and he said he shot a fox one night wearing a GPS collar.
Just wish they would release near me as I'm a bit short on

VSS won’t get any releases anyway cos he charges for them and farmers will have moved the white vans on rather than risk a huge bill .

Well if you could just snap a quick photo next time you see a van load of caged foxes being released down some quiet backlane somewhere, that would be great, thanks.

I have seen plenty of mangy foxes in towns and the smoke. But I see that in the country too.

They are both susceptible to conditions like mange but I would say country foxes suffer less

Thats not really the issue though. City foxes are nowhere near as savvy as a country fox as a rule.

It is a very strong case that a city fox receives careless treatment if its released in countryside. It can tske too long for it to assess and respond to a Willey rabbit compared to a discarded KFC or kebab - with or without extra chilli sauce.

Prople release foxes and patch them up out of a kind spirit. Whos knocking that. But it is ignorant of them to assume it wont starve or the injury/infection kick off either.

Non indigenous species as a rule cannot be released, grey squizzers, munty to name a few unless they have a special authority to do so.

If a fox, country or urban, is not causing harm then great. But ordinarily, that isnt the case. In the case of urban, one persons no harm is anothers **** covered lawn.

I did a job in Woking and the lawn was just seething in scat. It was truly gross and it was a really nice property. Just ignorant neighbours letting them den and feeding.

The bottom line is catch and release just or releases from sanctuaries cantvbe stopped and you will be wasting time stating the bloody obvious.

That leaves one solution. So accept it and crack on.

Ask any animal charity if they are making money ,none are gov funded to my knowledge .It would be cheaper for them to euthanise every fox brought in .
