I'm aware of Rekon tripod carbon i think ?
And i know you get the pig saddle or hog saddle.... difference in price ...so what's the difference between the two saddles .... and what other brands give the same stability and lightness as the Rekon ?

Hi. I have a recon tripod in alloy with the pig saddle had it years really good and stable. Recently got the revic backpacker carbon tripod and got a Swiss arca rail what a noticeable improvement also have a carbon fiber Swarovski tripod. I suppose it depends how your using your tripod obviously if carrying them weight is important.

If weight saving is what your after then a carbon fibre tripod with an arca rail would be the way I'd go.

The clamp, which depending on your rifles stock/chassis, will add a good chunk of weight at the top and make it unwieldy.

I went for the bigger legged Rekon tripod and use a ball head with QD arca clamp, lightweight and sturdy 👍🏻

Hog saddle is aluminium, pig saddle is steel. So weight is one aspect - the Hog is 'heavier duty', but both work in hunting environments. These were the 'original' saddles - there are a fair few alternates in the market now.
On tripod, there are a lot of options - and you can spend a lot less - and a lot more - on a tripod. All depends on need and budget.

I bought a Sunwayphoto t4040cs dsm 76. Mouthful of a name, but am extremely happy. Bought directly from their website, got a discount coupon after writing an email (they’re very responsive).

How does it differ from this one?
Had my eye on one of these for a little while with an archer clamp.

Edit - it has a vise clamp instead of the arca swiss clamp. And it is thicker.

I fancied a tripod. Got to use one whilst on a course. I was disappointed with it, not as stable as I thought it would be. It wasn’t a cheap one either, believe it was a Rekon with a pig saddle on it. Perhaps I just need more time with one to hone my skills. At the moment I’m sticking to my quads. I’d try before you buy

I had rekon before but sold them .. I do work quad sticks but i shouldn't have sold tripod ...it has a place .... I just know Rekon ...I wondered what's out there and if can get same or similar but cheaper 🫣

Hello, I am not a Stalker but understand the need for a good solid Tripod with your rifles where most are mainly for Air Rifles, That i presume comes at a cost for good quality made ones, Now days i cannot shoot with out my sticks and that is just for a PCP,

Evening,

I’ve shot off carbon Rekon tripod with a pig saddle for my work. The saddle is very secure but the carbon doesn’t ‘sit down’ like ally. It will hold your rifle, regardless of weight but you have to muscle it onto target,

If you’re walking/stalking over great distances then the carbon maybe makes sense but the ally does provide a better shot/stability when its required.

I’d rather carry the weight and ditch something else to ensure the stable shot.

same design as ours but without the 20kg ball head or the extension tube to take it to 72" (also heavier... :) )

I bought my sunwayfoto back in January (2025) and I've never really been happy with the arca clamp because its the type that uses a screw to tighten it yet in some of their advert pics they have the QR lever type which i prefer. I messaged them on ebay on Friday and they're shipping one to me on Monday free of charge. If it turns up I'd say that was pretty good customer service.

I bought a Artcise CS80C bare tripod, on Amazon for £109 quid delivered Carbon, well built and goes to a really good height, and weighs about 1.5kg. Seems to be exactly the same as a Leophoto, Sunway or Vortex Switchback, who add on 400 quid for some Vortex stickers.

Have a look on Ali express you will be amazed how much cheaper they are, and del with in 2 weeks from China,
I think ive had 4 now slightly converted them for mates,
