Tumbling

I'm awaiting a delivery of the Gun Tap media today, looking forward to seeing how they perform

I bet all you wet tumblers have peening on the neck like this 😳

I made the mistake last week of thinking as I am going to a BDS Range Day I should have Sunday Best shiny brass rather than just clean straight out of the U/S...Stupid Idea.

I remembered having read of people saying tie it in a pillow case and chuck it in the washing machine. So I did it with a load of dog towels on a 14 minute wash. Awful idea, apart from the clanking noise, the case mouths were all battered just like @Utectok 's image.

Even though luckily I spotted it and realised they had to be chamfered inside and out before sizing, the neck tension was noticeably variable and around 20% were battered so short that they didn't meet the trimmer, and 40% still have dimps in the end.

I used to do a lot of tumbling in my silver work and once owned and ran a commercial 1.5 tonne 1.5 metre rubber lined tank rumbler for steel. The silver tumbler was a simple Nivea Hand Cream pot held on a tilted record player turntable filled with snips of silver offcuts and a bit of fairy liquid, that was very effective swishing away at 33rpm.

I did think that snipped / crushed 22LR cases could make a good, readily available media for a vibratory or rotary tumbler for cartridge cases.

0000 wire wool or ultrafine Scotchbrite, spin brass up in the drill and quick polish after a trim and deburr. Flash hole is done with a small screwdriver when I take the case from the press after a resize.

Interesting comments. I've been using an ultrasonic bath for a while, which was ok, but I fancy some really nice shiny brass so will go looking for a vibrating tumbler now. The stainless route seemed a bit costly and maybe a bit of a faff?

Interesting, I too was using an ultrasonic bath but first of all my pubic hair fell out and then I developed the most disconcerting shakes! Switched to walnut which solved the shakes but I found a bit rough, in a rather sensuous way…….

Don't be put off by us neigh sayers , reloading is what you make of it . My new obsessions are powder weighing to the kernel , annealing and primer choice during load development . So , I'm certainly not judging.
If you want shiny cases , go for it . I did find that excessively clean necks seemed to have a negative effect .
I took the blue pill and it tasted funny 😆

I just use vibrating tumbler with walnut media never had bad results yet.ultrasonic as well but not convinced it’s necessary.ultrasonic gets right into primer pockets.it just piece of mind for me.reloaded for years with out ultrasonic tho it doesn’t make a difference to accuracy.

Was only looking at the slight damage to the case mouths last night from running a vibrating tumbler with corn cob and in the past with walnut.
Do you still get this with wet tumbling?
