Tweed Suit

Try Humphrey and Tilley in Thirsk, North Yorkshire. I wear suits for work and have had numerous tweaks and supposes ‘made to measure’ disasters! I wanted a suit for a lifetime and the guys mentioned above were utterly amazing even down to choosing your buttons! From memory cost me about 1800 quid but the suit will last a lifetime.

Ps I’m the one in the tweed, not me uncle Derek 😂

I'd quite like a tweed 3-piece for my daughter's wedding - so posh kit, not a suit for shooting in. Any reccomended places to look at. I'm probably going up to Edinburgh for dresses (for my wife that is) as I'd rather go there than the Trafford Centre! Much as I like Harris tweed, it can be heavy so perhapas looking at alternatives.
EDIT - nothing that goes all peaky blinders though!

I’m trying an Indian online outfit called studio suits… you can add detailed measurements and in theory get a reasonably priced bespoke suit made by clever Indian tailors…. Bit of a risk I guess but I hate shopping and you never know it might work? I’ll update when the suit arrives
I'm in the market for a few suits as I'm changing careers. I'd be interested to know how you get on. If you don't mind, what's the damage for one of these suits?

I got a very good suit from these people:

Good quality stuff.

David Saxby in London used to be brilliant, huge selection of second hand Savile Row suits and jackets and his own line of very good quality clothes, all fairly priced. Really helpful staff as well. I got married in a suit from him. He used to have a shop in Cirencester as well. Fantastic smell of mothballs.

Sadly I think he is closed now.

A quick search confirms David Saxby is still in business and now in Yorkshire. I would definitely contact him. Last time I went to his shop, he must have had 200+ tweed suits

Light, medium or heavy weight?

Also do you want to choose the tweed, or are you willing to take something regular "off the peg"? An idea of budget might also help, as there is quite a difference if you go bespoke.

For off the peg perhaps give Peter Christian a look:

Much as I dislike House of Bruar, their Saxony tweed is very nice, though I was always told turn-ups should only ever exist on pleat-fronted trousers:

Moving up a notch, you won't go far wrong with something from Cordings:

Beyond that, there are numerous local tailors who can probably provide something suitable. I used to use Trotter & Deane, in Suffolk, and was very happy with their made-to-measure service:

A good tailor would soon alter it, and it wouldn't cost much to have done.
That's what I would seriously consider if I was @Buchan

Agreed.

I have a 44 chest, 36 waist, long length 3-piece tweed suit that could easily be tailored to a 42 chest, 34 waist, regular length for a fraction of the cost it would take to have made new.

But you would need to have access to a good tailor to do so, at least if you want the resulting suit to look fitted.

That's sadly why it's often easier to source an off-the-peg suit.

About £200 I think although maybe some import duties to pay. Potentially it could be great but I guess also could be a tricky one? I dunno mixed reviews on trust pilot… but life’s a gamble eh! It’s not my daughters wedding getting a new kilt for that it’s her brother in law’s wedding so if I look a **** no biggie lol 😂

Well please let me know how it comes out.

I got married in a lightweight tweed three-piece suit, made for me by Parker Taylor in Bridgnorth. They did a very good job and the price wasn’t too bad either.
