Tweed Suit

I'd quite like a tweed 3-piece for my daughter's wedding - so posh kit, not a suit for shooting in. Any reccomended places to look at. I'm probably going up to Edinburgh for dresses (for my wife that is) as I'd rather go there than the Trafford Centre! Much as I like Harris tweed, it can be heavy so perhapas looking at alternatives.
EDIT - nothing that goes all peaky blinders though!

What size would you be after? I have a lovely 3 piece which no longer fits, lovely light weight but lovely quality tweed from the local “gentleman’s outfitters” .

If you are going to Edinburgh for the dresses then you can kill two birds with one stone.

Stewart Christie & Co. on Queen St.

You will never look anywhere else for your tweed requirements...

Alexander James in Worsley made me a suit (for shooting, but smart) many years ago, out of Islay tweed. I also had a lounge-suit from them - so they can do non-sporting gear too.
A pal of mine had a (rather smarter) tweed suit made for his own wedding. It was made dual-purpose: it has a waistcoat and cap, the coat is cut discretely for shooting, and with one pair of trousers and one of plus-twos. I'll drop you a line if I can find out who made it for him - I think a Scottish firm, probably. The idea might appeal, though, as he's really been getting plenty use out of it.

Stewart Christie & Co on Queen St for a more traditional offering & Walker Slater in Victoria St for a more modern twist (& a lower price tag). I have bought jackets/suits from both & they were both excellent in their own ways

Stewart Christie aren’t cheap! Their manufacturing is done in Leeds as well, or at least the made to measure suits are.

There is a very good tailor in Leeds, near Headingley, no idea who he was though, but very good and reasonable. I had a brilliant suit made there about 10 years ago for under £500. Unfortunately the dry cleaners went bankrupt and I lost it.

Ede and Ravenscroft used to do a very good deal every October, a made to measure suit in British cloth for £400. That was 15+ years ago though!

I have heard a lot of good things about Sutherland Sporting Tweeds.

There is a tailor in Brampton who is ex Savile Row. A friend of mine used him. He said the quality is the very best but he is very expensive.

Michele shield at Issac walton from newcastle make our estate tweeds she travels all over the country at this time of year measuring keepers so worth giving her a call and your paths might cross!

I’m trying an Indian online outfit called studio suits… you can add detailed measurements and in theory get a reasonably priced bespoke suit made by clever Indian tailors…. Bit of a risk I guess but I hate shopping and you never know it might work? I’ll update when the suit arrives

i see you are in cumbria this will be a lovley day trip for you .. i used these guys many times and their suits are fatnastic quality and great price
