UK moderator on vistors FAC

Why do country’s not allow moderators ? You’d think for they would for reducing disturbance and for user safety as far as hearing is concerned
It's true, there are obvious benefits to using a moderator in reducing hearing damage and less disruption to wildlife and indeed humans. De-restricting them makes sense and for any UK government to make sense when dealing with firearms legislation is both rare and welcome.

I think historically though, moderators (or "silencers" back in the day) just weren't used generally by the likes of hunters/stalkers/vermin controllers/farmers and were seen as nefarious products used only by assassins or spies and that's why they were restricted. Anyway, shortly any Jackals amongst us won't need to have moderators on their assassin's rifles or their Walther PPks, making life easier for them. (I jest, of course).

I hope it comes into force here, I’ve a .22mod I want rid of but really not desperate enough to wait on a 1for1 anyways hopefully get rid of it in May with ease

We can buy mods in France, but the big question would be whether we would be able to get is on our visitors FAC's (which are already being processed) before the end of april when we come over.
Halfway through the year the problem will solve itself with mods coming off ticket, so too much hassle may not be worth it.....
Hi Emilio,
I think the problem here is that your VFP is already processing. Out of my experience is that any variation / amendments on a VFP, has to be a new application unfortunately, since that would take 8 weeks.

If you did apply your VFP with the mod, you should be fine, since you don't have to actually own the item (be it rifle or mod), as long as you are allowed to have firearms in general. You could for example borrow a firearm in the UK from a friend, provided you are allowed to have firearms or your Jagers akte in NL. The police will ask questions if there is something they don't understand... having said that, I guess that would depend on the police force your sponsor is dealing with also.

Now the next question obviously is when the new legislation kicks in where mods come off the FAC; you would still need a FAC to buy a mod, you just don't have to put it on your ticket... But... Can someone with a Visitors Firearms Permit buy a mod in the UK also based on the visitors permit instead of the FAC?
