Ardverikie Estate – Under-Stalker Required

Ardverikie Estate covers over 40,000 acres of the highlands, on the edge of the Cairngorms National
Park. An Under Stalker is required to work a beat on the estate, mainly taking family and private
guests stalking, with additional Hind Shooting in season. The estate has been in the same family
ownership for over 150 years.

There is a strong emphasis on Team Working, and although the estate structure is relatively informal
you will be required to report directly to the Head Stalker, who in turn reports to the Estate Manager
and owning family.

As well as traditional hill stalking, there is also a requirement for deer control within our commercial
forestry areas. The estate has a strong emphasis on compliance with all relevant legislation, and we
are members of a very collaborative Deer Management Group (Mid West).
Habitat monitoring on a
number of locations around the estate is also carried out by the stalking staff.
Outside the shooting seasons, the Sporting Department are actively involved in road and path
maintenance, and also help out as necessary with deer fence repairs and general care and
observation around the estate.
Applicants must demonstrate experience of traditional stalking activities along with a good
understanding of the rapidly changing nature of deer management under recent and forthcoming
legislation.
Experience with stalking ponies would be desirable but not essential.
In return for this commitment, the estate will provide an excellent, well insulated 3 bedroomed
house, with heating allowance. A vehicle is provided for estate duties, and there is a generous
pension scheme with life insurance for employees.
