Unhonoured Harkila Warranty

Hi all,

I have a predicament.

About 15 months ago I bought some Harkila Pro Hunter Icon trousers from John Norris, naturally with the 5 year warranty. As it happens they were on sale at the time.

Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago they began leaking heavily at the thigh/knees, so emailed John Norris and sent them back as advised with what I wanted as an exchange as the Icon isnt made anymore.

Anyway, John Norris wont exchange the trousers for an equivalent "Pro Hunter" model without me paying the difference between the price the trousers are now at their shop and the price I paid at the time, ~£90 (as I said it was on sale).

Am I missing something? If I buy a pair of trousers with a 5 year warranty (irrespective of the price I paid), should I reasonably expect to have these trousers be replaced with an equivalent item should they become faulty?

I bought the trousers for the main reason that they had 5 year warranty, with the idea that if I did have an integral fault that I could have them exchanged free of charge, not charged extra!

What would happen if I paid the extra £90, got the new trousers, they become faulty in a year, and then the trousers go up in price again and I have to pay £90 again??

Am I missing something? Please help!

As far as I'm aware, if they discontinue during the warranty period they are legally obliged to replace with an equivalant ir better. Ask the vendor for a copy of there decline communication as your persuing through small claims

They have offered you a full refund !!! they don't stock the item any longer!!! why would you try to get one over on a company that's only doing their best by pursuing that option
Do unto others as your have done to you

I’m pretty sure John Norris has commissioned substandard items from Harkilla, Schoffel and other to knock out ‘cheap’ bit like the outlet malls do...

Very unlikely - I've shopped with them for years and only had good product and service - for clothing as well as fishing stuff. Are you speaking from personal experience?

I've also had issues with crappy harkila boots. 3 times.

1 paiir only got worn literally a handful of times afore they leaked
U see the price and think worth a punt but no just a waste off money.

Dunno if they still do 3 dog leads for a tenner, they were good value

Thanks all.

I'll just ask for the refund and leave it at that, as Fair Hill said its 15 months use FOC and I'm not the type to go to small claims court!

Although I am still a little unclear as to what the warranty actually means, I havent been able to find a harkila warranty document etc? Perhaps a question for another time.

I think the heat may have made me a little sensitive.

Cheers all,

Bont

Your contract is with the retailer, not the manufacturer, as said above, they have offered a refund, they need do no more, they have done no wrong here take your money and don’t buy harleeker again, it’s not what it used to be!
Not in my experience, always spoken to the manufacturer of any product as it them who offer the guarantee not the retailer and never had any problems.
