Uttings disappointment

I've used Uttings numerous times. Their service is excellent, and on the odd occasion I have bought something that didn't fit, I was grateful I could return it for exchange, or credit, never minding about the cost to do so !

If people want the convenience of ordering footwear, or clothing on line, often doing so to find the cheapest price, there's always the possibility that they won't fit, and that's the chance you take.

I really don't understand why a supplier should be responsible for the return shipping cost, if they have supplied the goods correctly, as ordered.

Absolutely.

Just purchased a pair of Harkila pro hunter boots from Uttings.
Reduced price with a discount code and got the boots delivered next day. Total cost £200.
How can this not be a win win situation.
Superb boots , best possible price , incredible delivery service.
Well chuffed.

I've bought guns from them years ago when they had a shop in Norwich, and still order via their website for various items, in thirty years never been disappointed, I live in Norfolk, but they are very quick on delivery. Deerwarden

I use Uttings and can't really fault them. With profit margins being lower nowadays I guess we have to expect to cover returns cost on correctly ordered items. If they sent it wrong it's another matter.
Cheers Steve.

I sell waders and every time i discuss sizes with customers i describe exactly how to measure, what to wear and give as much detail as possible. When customers do this they get the correct size. But on a regular basis i get customers who guess, pretend it is accurate and then get say a medium when they have been an XL since 1967! I have had customers chest size go up by 11 inches overnight.
I sell at half RRP in some cases so often dont make a huge profit, my choice. If there is a problem with the product i send fedex to collect it and replace it. However if someone is too lazy to follow my instructions then they can pay the return, and i will then send them back the correct size no problem, at my cost. Either that or i get them back and refund them, some people are not worth dealing with and i dont have problems selling my stock!
I am not suggesting the OP is like this, but the public can be difficult to deal with at times. Some are a delight, others can be stunningly difficult, and if they send me approximate sizes i will send waders that approximately fit. Warranty issues are even more fun, i have had an angler caught on a barbed wire fence and on other have a puppy eat their waders and wonder if my warranty covers this?

My take on it is simply this, if the problem is caused by the customer then the customer can pay the return, in most cases only a few pounds. If it is the retailer / suppliers fault, then they should pay.

I just received some new boots in the post and sadly they are to small.
No problem I thought, I will send them back for the next size up, bear in mind theese boots are in excess of £250. Uttings don't offer free returns, and let's be honest boots are not light or small when there 12" high. VERY disappointed.

That's exactly why you should always buy anything wearable in person and accept that customer service comes with a price

I have to agree that if you have bought something that is fit for purpose but you want to return it, then you should foot the bill for returning it. However, the notion that it's all down to the supplier is fostered by such people as Next and other big business mail order businesses. If you want to buy a dress, for example and you are not sure if you are a 12 or 14, then it seems common practice to order both sizes and return the unwanted one, free of charge. (I only wear them at weekends).

It would help enormously if the clothing and footwear industry would get their act together and measure things the same across the board.

i had to return a pair of trousers for the next size and it came with a envelope and free return slip? possibly they only allow this for light items.

Many dealings with uttings all been excellent same applies to bushwear, excellent.
Sportsman gun centre, never, never again!
