Vacuum packer + bags

I'm using a cheap vacuum packer from Aldi as I don't freeze much. I can't get the bags to seal now. Is there a decent Vacuum bag people are using or should I sling the machine and start again.
Cheers.

Just make sure you are only placing the plastic on the front part when you want to seal and not all the way back like when you want to vacuum.

Wechenfelder are good bags and good selection of sizes.

Just a suggestion, but I had the same problem (bags not sealing) but I managed to sort it just by cleaning everything. Even the smallest amount of dirt can prevent the machine reaching a vacuum, so it refuses to go to the sealing stage.

There should be two oblong shaped foam seals (top and bottom) which create the vacuum chamber. Take these out, and clean the plastic underneath and everywhere else with a damp cloth and then dry kitchen paper. Soak the two foam seals in hot soapy water and again clean with a cloth. I actually think the seals work better when slightly damp. But don't leave the door shut on damp seals because they then get stuck together. I leave some greaseproof paper in there.

I used a cheap machine initially.

Seemed to do well, but as time went in, I found the vacuum wouldn’t work quite enough and the seal wasn’t as good.

I’ve gone for a Buffalo now, a different beast altogether. Expensive, but worth it.

Just check you are using bags suitable for this type of vac pac, they need to have a rough surface on the inside of one leaf of the bag, this allows the air to escape when the two faces are pressed together.... the other type of bag are for vac chamber type,

I did wonder why one side was rough. Makes sense now.
Thanks for the help.

Good idea, will give it a try.

I've taken the seals out and cleaned them and where they fit, wasn't too bad but better now, tried sealing a couple of bags with the seals damp and works a treat.
So thanks for the tip.
Steve.

Happy to help out! If you keep them clean and the bags un-creased, there is no reason why a cheap machine cant last for years. I have one that has processed over 100 deer now. Works fine.
