VE Celebration fly past

We live on the inbound route for fly pasts heading towards the palace. Yesterday was the 1st time i was ready with camera, long(ish) lens mounted and at the tope of the house when they came past.

Relatively happy, the lighting was not ideal, the camera was set to fully auto mode and could probably have done with a bit of adjustment re the lighting but still, better pics than i have had previously.

Did you get any?

The light has picked out the prop tips on the Lancaster though.:thumb:
being relatively high up, combined with the aircraft being at low altitude helps a lot i think, however i think if i could remember how to add some exposure compensation it would have helped but hey I have only had the camera/lens for about 3 years or so, takes time to learn you know!

Lancaster veered off over Blackmore so didn't follow the same route, it was about a mile away so managed to see it and hear the beautiful engines but no point trying to video it from the phone.

No, I didn't work on the Lancaster, I'm not quite that old!
I remember as a small boy in London hearing them go over on their bombing missions, equally noisy were the dog fights, ack-ack guns and the incoming bombers and doodle-bugs.
My auntie is 97. Luckily growing up in north Wales there wasn't anything like the big cities but she can remember when she was 12 or 13 a bomb landing on the beach in Llandudno. She also remembers how amazing VE day was, the joy & relief.

As the planes were heading to Liverpool, people use to light fires on mountain tops to try trick them that they'd reached theyr targets already..it bloody worked too, I've seen craters on Ruabon from a bomb!

speaking with my mother (90) last night, she lived in Romford (east of London) which was routinely bombed, she was recalling the days and nights spent in shelters during the blitz. School days in the shelters with teachers getting the children to sing to try to drown out the sounds of bombs and the AA guns.

Re the AA guns, mum recalls one close to their house they referred to as 'Big Bertha' as it was lounder and shook the house/shelter more when it fired.

Makes one think about those suffering in a similar fashion today.
