Looking at getting a truck (Currently drive a super mini car which isn’t suitable at all).

2 friends both have VE Amarok’s. Not going down the rabbit hole of ‘I have a ranger, I prefer a hilux, etc’.

The new road tax coming in has got me completely stumped. One of the trucks is 2017, the other 2019, both V6 3 ltr. Am I going to get hit with the £2735 tax ? That makes a truck completely out of my league or is it going to be the £455 (Or similar).

Just tried running a truck on short term loan for 3 months for affordability and that all worked for me and mine. The tax could be the cliff hanger……

Any and all help greatly appreciated.

That’s what confusing me if I’m honest. Is it just then ?

My understanding is that if not a new-new car, then it's already been registered for the first time.

Hence why you often see "pre-reg" cars for sale at the dealer as well - which are new cars, but they've already registered (pre-registered) them

That helps, thanks.

If I now reread all the twoddle. The eye watering costs have already been done and dusted with and from now on I’d be looking at ‘normal’ (Whatever that is nowadays) road tax ?

As far as I'm aware, the only tax change that is coming is the benefit in-kind change.

So unless you're a business, it's not affecting you. Feel like it's one of those hearsay things... Gets passed about a dozen people and suddenly everyone's paying everything.

Then that settles my mind a bit then. Thank you all.

I'd be more concerned how much it is to insure the buggers...
Not sure what’s going on but the insurance on my L200 is sky rocketing for no bastard reason! Another £250 this year taking it to over £1300 a year. Limited milage, I’m 41 with full no claims and not living in a high risk area..

Indeed, my 2013 Hilux worth approx/max £5k in value went from £49/month at the start to month to £79/month! No claims, and vehicle has depreciated in value to almost nil, yet, insurance has almost doubled. Shopped around, but what I have remains the cheapest still. Go figure

Conversely, my Navara cost me less than 200 quid this year- limited mileage, but fully comp, protected no claims, legal cover etc. That was with the Post Office. Bargain.

I’m 81 and 358/365ths with 9 years no claims.
160 HP Freelander, fully comp with wifey as named driver…£760!
