Venison initiative in Scotland

Selling these at £30 each doesn't justify the £200 fee from the council for the dealer licence.
Mine was £118 for 3 years? I have little issue with it in principle to be honest. But the fact it doesn't allow you to purchase carcasses from other QUALIFIED stalkers to process through your own larder unless you're a registered LGHE makes it absolutely pointless in my book

Hunters exemption does still apply in Scotland, venison dealers license is required if you are doing any further processing other than basic larder prep. Basically, if you skin a carcass before selling it, you need a venison dealers license.

The Wild Game Guide is very helpful.

Thanks
That is only for your own deer you cannot process any other
I agree that's how I read it in the Wild Game Guide (Scotland).

Section 4.3 on page 13 sums it up. Direct supply of small quantities of in fur carcases to the final consumer or local retail establishments, at least one party to the transaction (i.e. supplier or receiver) holds a valid Venison Dealer Licence.

Its a bit of a joke that the rules aren't the same in England. Maybe I should set up my business supplying local customers a few miles away in England.

Also why is it free to register as a Food Business but £120 to register as a venison dealer?

When you read all this it looks like there is hunter exemptions under “food hygiene” legislation for the onward journey of your venison (or deer).

However if your in Scotland the “Deer Scotland Act” is a separate legislation that prevents you from selling venison (or deer) unless you have a VDL unless of course you sell it to a VDL. This has no exemption?

Two separate legislations?

And even tho those of us who have a VDL but are not AGHE cannot purchase either people's venison

We also cannot butcher and give hunter back their own kill for their own use / not for resale

So basically if your hunters exemption we are paying for a VDL for nothing other than a piece of paper and to be legal

It Looks like any one selling deer to the public must do it through a AGHE if not then you are against the EU laws. This means to be a proper venison dealer eg Buy and sell from others you need to be fully AGHE. That means all the ones i deal with have been illegal (Scotland). I have also been told this could amount to prosecution and loss of FAC. Time the powers that be sorted this shite out. FSS have just become aware of this and will be making visits. All this money the Scottish government have been pumping in to the venison sector and there are only 8 - 14 Active AGHE.

Yes In Scotland to buy other persons kill / carcasses you didn't have anything to do with yourself you must be An AGHE

I can sell venison processed product under hunters exemption and EHO approval but only with carcasses I had a hand in or killed myself
