I appreciate everyone’s angle on this as it’s helping me pull up and reassess and reset everything, just want to do right by my pup so we can move forward in a good direction and hopefully be a good team .
So steady and obedient as you like for when Stalking, happy to lie at the foot of a high seat if needed and through time able to trail hot and cold trails .
Training for me go steady don’t push him, concentrate on the basics first then progress.

i used all deer species for my two teckles as a scent some easy some very hard - pelage, whole skin, head and feet attached just a hoove big blood trail heart and lung bits minischule blood trail just let him work easy and hard - experience is everything if the dogs happy you’ll be happy with him

Yes there must be praise.

Ever since dogs evolved the whole idea of them tracking was to the end result of getting a feed. With my own dogs there is the slice of hot liver at the end of a successful hunt. If I`m well up into the bush I will feed the whole liver, they are in heaven.
To see a dog scoff that hot liver down one knows that it is all part of the 'dogs world' of catching/disembowelling their own prey. modern dogs are not very far from wild dogs in reality.
I remember the story of a couple of sled dogs that survived for a year in Antarctica after they were abandoned and then subsequently found alive.
