Vets prescription charges

Hi All just a question, what are folk paying for a repeat written vets prescription? Mine has just put it up to £30 from £18. This is a ongoing treatment for our GWP, had a discussion with vet about cost of them supplying but more expensive than online. They have cut quantity down so I would possibly require 2x prescriptions a month. Just seems like a bloody rip off because not getting medication of them. I do appreciate things have gone up!!!

Mine used to be around £25, but I found that though prescription drugs are cheaper online by the time you have paid for an examination and a prescription at the vets there was very little saving for all the messing about to buy online.

I am being charged £14 for a worming prescription that I can use only for 3 months. It’s still quite cheaper than purchasing these tablets from the vet.

In 2002, I calculated the time it took to write a prescription: Reception time to answer phone and take details (or download email) and enter in the prescription book; my time to read, bring up the record, check the prescription is right, check that it's not overdue a re-examination, enter the details, print the prescription, sign it, put it in envelope for the client.
It came to about £15 in terms of time/salaries etc.
Inflation makes it £22

I certainly don't have issue with cost and time ( care at practice has been 100% spot on over the years) after looking back over the prescriptions gone from 30x tablets repeatable 6x. Down to 15 repeatable once after a conversion about the practice supplying the medication. Definitely stands out what they what they are doing!!!

Prescriptions are good for 6 months in most cases (regulatory speaking)) so you can ask for as many repeats as necessary to cover the 6 months - as long as the animal is “stable” medically speaking.
Cannot account for some of the GWPs we hear about! 😂. Only jealous coz I want one - but for numerous reasons cannot validate one.
These repeats are detailed on the one prescription - so you pay one fee, but could effectively get 6 months worth of treatment.

Be thankful for small mercies, the SA veterinary profession is collapsing / imploding and frankly at this point I am too tired to go into details, but ultimately it will be the animals / clients that suffer - note the order I put that in.

My pal 56 is a vet near Freiburg in Germany he is getting to his wits end ref making the business pay him a living wage, his costs for (unreliable) staff are always on the up and his large practice Syrian refugee vet he took on to get him settled into the German system just did a runner on him so that he now has to run his large and small units alone now.
