Hi all,

I’m looking for some vintage AI target rifles in wooden stocks. They’re usually single shot but some have magazines. I’ve a few already and am trying to form a complete collection of each variety, also trying to save them from being scrapped or machined out into replica snipers. I am only missing a few variants, but do have a prototype which is probably the rarest. I would really appreciate any help!

Thanks in advance.

Brings back fond memories of a few friends who've used the Palmamaster in years gone by. Fabulous rifles!
Yes they really are fine rifles. Commonly mistaken to be rough military grade rifles not suitable for NRA TR, but one mustn’t forget that the AI was originally a 300m rifle. I have one of the first prototypes from 1982(?) and a later 1987 one. My Coopermatch Palmamasters aren’t as interesting, but are equally as good if not more robust actions.

I remember two fellow Sussex County shooters using them with great effect, with Maddco barrels.... absolute tack-drivers!

I think I know of one of them. Initials MB? I was put in touch with him by a friend and MB kindly recounted the story of how his AI was the first of the NRA Target Rifle variants. He gave me a postcard written to him by Malcolm Cooper after one of his biggest Olympic wins. True gent.

It certainly is MB! I bought my first TR from him after he started using the Palmamaster! (It was a mk3 Swing which M had shot the first ever recorded 150/150 on Queens 2 course of fire :) - I went on to shoot it with equal success in 2003 Palma and it also shot the first ever 450/450 Palma score on Stickledown!)

Bump.

I'm also looking for a couple of wooden target rifle stocks. Doesn't have to be AI as I can re-inlet and bed if necessary.

Fultons have just put one on Guntrader
Thanks, I checked it out in person actually, but no longer have room for Coopermatches. There were only three key variations in the UK and they're surprisingly common! There were some more obscure and lowkey target actions in the 90s apart from the Coopermatch, but apart from the last two new old stock actions I found recently, I've yet to see a complete one.

Mainly after the older three lug actions now which were mainly an 80s thing.

Still looking.

I have some Coopermatches, single shot and magazine fed (!) that I can do a part-ex for any old 3 lug AI target rifles.
