Obviously it’s very unlikely that anyone will check.

However, I know that estates are reluctant to let people show up without one because of the legal headaches if something does go wrong.

If you were to have an incident, eg you had a car accident, and police were involved and you had unlicensed air weapon, then it will be treated as having an unlicensed firearm with all the botheration that can lead to.

Scottish animals are tough, don’t be fooled. Lots on ‘good reason’ for larger calibres in England due to ‘Scotland’… things take longer to die here and could even fight back.

Bring the 338LM instead of the springer

Its a mare going up to Northumberland as depending on the route you take it may pass through Scotland. I dont bother taking air rifles now for that very reason.

The exact wording of the Air Weapons act - an air weapon is given the same meaning as described in the Firearms Act 1968

(1)It is an offence for a person to use, possess, purchase or acquire an air weapon without holding an air weapon certificate.

(2)A person who commits an offence under subsection (1) is liable—

(a)on summary conviction, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months or a fine not exceeding the statutory maximum (or both),

(b)on conviction on indictment, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 2 years or a fine (or both).
