It was a typo, sorry, should read "copper or fibre" (and I am aware that at current there's no way of delivering power over fibre)
 
...In any case, PoE has a very short distance over which it can transmit DC power (less than 100m). Can you imagine the transmission losses trying to do that at the network scale? One of those cases of 'they haven't done this for a reason' and not just cost.

Yes I am aware of that, I mentioned it for clarification as to why your telephone handset works during a power cut while your router doesn't (and won't in further either).
