Afternoon all,

Any one used the vortex 5000 fury range finding binoculars? Are they good in last/low light? Would it be worth getting the newer version with applied ballistics? Is there any other range finding binoculars in a similar price range that are better?

Thank you in advance Everyone.

I use for all my rifle shooting. Stalking, fixing etc.
I have compared them against Swarovski, there is a slight difference but not to warrant paying an extra £1000.
Would i have another pair, yes.

I have some, non AB version.

I think they stack up quite well to the big brands. I’ve tested them side by side with EL’s and there isn’t thatttt much in it. As said above, not double the price territory anyway. Highly recommended.

I did a lot of research into the AB version and personally I think it's only worth the extra if you're planning on shooting from set position at proper long distance and having to contend with differing angles of elevation and wind direction. Sitting on a rocky outcrop and shooting animals on a facing valley side that could pop up anywhere then yes, but if just shooting foxes/deer while walking round some fields then not so much.

I have been using a pair for the last 2 years without any issued. Good value at the price point. Compact and not too heavy, non AB, I have no use for it so can’t comment.
Need to have a steady rest/ hold to get best results due to 10 x magnification. Not quite as good as my Swarovski at low light but you wouldn’t expect them to be.

This video compares them side by side to some Leica Geovids and seems a decent honest comparison with pros and cons for each.

Use non AB set, can't fault them and if out with my mate and look through his Swaros at last light, differnce is only marginal, as others have said difference certainly doesn't warrant an extra £1k, lifetime warranty is a no brainer.

Raising this thread, to ask how the range finding is with these ? How do they perform out past 1000m ?

I have no experience of the vortex

However I would recommend AB

Takes the guesswork out of part of the target acquisition

Leaving only wind calls

I use Strelok Pro for the ballistic solver part of things, so wouldn't be so keen on splashing the extra for the AB version. These would primarily be for LR/ELR steel shooting, so mainly concerned with the LRF reliability and accuracy at distances beyond 1000m. I currently use my Leicas, but they're not ideal in terms of repeatability and object/target focus out at the extremities. Pal uses Sig Kilos, which are better, but as usual I'm looking at options which are more affordable.

I've had rake about online, and came across this fairly comprehensive review, which put the Furys into a fairly good light, in terms of my requirements.

The HD 5000 version is much better than the previous, we have both. I have ranged out to over 2500m with the 5000. The older version struggles over 1000m depending on moisture in the air.
What I don't like is when they get older the adjusters get stuck to the rubber cover and they are very difficult to shift. Adjusters to focus range read out and left right.
In low light they are not too bad.
