Vortex fury rangefinder binos

Hi

Has anyone used or own a set of these if so what are your thoughts , I know there is better on the market but I’m interested in how these compare as they are relatively cheaper than such as zeiss/Leica

A pal of mine has a pair and really rates them. We've compared them to my Swaro's and to be honest whilst the Swaro's may have a low light edge the range measurements are absolutely comparable. In fact the biggest thing we joke about how the extra eye relief has cost me about £500 per mm :-)

I’m pretty sure these are the same as the Kahles ones, ie just a different colour and badge. I have the Kahles and they are excellent, I did look at the Vortex but at the time they were only making an 10x set and I wanted 8x. I have some other Vortex bins and they are excellent.

They are similar to, but not the same as the Kahles.
I have a pair of the Kahles 10x42 and they are excellent.
I was at the Scottish Game Fair last Friday and had a chance to look at the Vortex Fury.
IMHO, the image is just as good as the Kahles and they are a bit lighter.
Moray outfitting had a pair of 8x42s at a "special show price" of £1175 - that's a bargain.

Cheers

What are the differences Bruce? I handled both at the northern shooting show and I couldn’t tell any difference, I’m pretty sure they are the same chassis, electronics and glass.. I’d lay money that they came out of the same factory.

I used a pair of these Vortex binos last week hunting in Aus. Am now kicking myself I didn’t buy these instead of replacing my Vortex rangefinder with the same model after I dropped the original one in a flooded creek....

Excellent performance, ranging pigs with ease in very bright light conditions which can be quite a test for some rangefinders. Didn’t think to test how far it would range but was using it at 300-500m without difficulties. It read exactly the same distances as the regular Vortex 1500 rangefinder we had with us. My Vortex rangefinder will accurately range a deer in darkish bush at 800m+ which is better than the specs say it will, and a damn sight better than a couple of other dearer brands I’ve used recently.

Can’t comment on the last-of-the-light performance compared to the super expensive stuff, personally I’d never need a better pair of binos than these Vortex ones. I’ve never been convinced about the need to spend large on glass that delivers fractionally better low light performance. I’ve not seen demonstrated, unequivocally, a direct translation of being able to see ever so slightly more for ever so slightly longer, to more deer in the chiller at the end of the day.

"a direct translation of being able to see ever so slightly more for ever so slightly longer,"

Its way above "slightly" from my comparo`s over the years in real time
imo.

I have seen blokes packing up alongside me with a "cant see anymore" then have handed them my own bino`s..there is always an audible "aaaaaahhhh"

Nah, not so much any more John I don’t think. The best of the rest have made massive advances in glass quality over the last 10 years, the last 5 in particular. Back in the day I’d have agreed with you 100%, there were many times in southern Africa as a poor young fella that I envied the binos and scopes of the top brass, I’d see very clearly at sunset and dawn the difference between what I could afford and what they could afford.

But these days? Every now and then I’ll get a chance to have a look through some posh binos in the twilight, binos or scopes maybe costing double or even 3-4 times what I’d be happy to pay for hard use hunting glass, these days I don’t see anything like the gulf in quality any more. That’s why some of the recent new brands of the scene have suddenly become so successful globally, pervasive in every market, they’ve spotted the gap and done a damn good job of filling it.

I’ll not claim that the likes of top end Vortex models etc are the same as the top end brands like Leica, Zeiss etc, just a damn sight closer than a lot of blokes will care to admit once they’ve shelled out thousands on posh stuff. Its the relative difference in cost vs optical performance that’s changed so much recently, in favour of the more budget minded tight arse buggers like me. Doubtless all the top end glass aficionados will come out and bury me in withering condescension but you know that won’t worry me in the slightest!

The Kahles are definitely heavier and the "lumps" protruding from the underside are longer on the Kahles than on the Vortex.
I wouldn't disagree with you about them both coming out of the same factory though.

I've got a pair of 10x42 Vortex Fury and I'm happy with the performance, even though I've never tried any others. I use a Zeiss Victory HT 3-12x56 scope on my .234 and its a bit better than my binos in the twilight but that's to be expected.
One of the reasons I went for the Vortex is that unlike the Swarovski etc the electrics are covered for the full warranty period, the other was that they were a good bit cheaper.

Ourselves & Moray are indeed now stocking Vortex (the Monarch site will be updated with Vortex ranges shortly) - the ones at the Scone Fair at £1175 were snapped up very quickly leaving 2 chaps very disapointed!

I have a set of Swaro 8x42 RF's and to be honest I can't really see much difference in optic quality - the big plus for the Fury's is that they are more compact and lighter, and ultimately Vortex's VIP warranty is unique in the business, Lazer products are guaranteed for life. If you purchased Vortex products 2nd hand without a receipt then they fell of the roof of a 4x4 and smashed - Vortex would still honour the warrantly and replace.

Thanks

Rob

I reiterate with an extra few words added to the original and also to add that its when you are looking towards the western sunlight fading behind and over the bush and the deer come out in front of the trees/bush that the top liners come to the fore.
Basically any bino in good light is a huge difference over our own eyesight, but those critical last or first minutes of the day for ID purposes that can make the difference `tween a good hunt or a not so good hunt..Just my opinion, thats all.
I do remember a successful evening many many years ago which came to a good end with a deer taken that I put down to the success by using the "Gerber" binos that were given to me.I wouldn't have seen the deer without them as using them they were far better than the naked eye (7x50`s) but I do know that in the situations where the great binos stand out that those old Gerbers would be already in the pack.
Do Gerber own a bino company ha ha? NO!

I have seen blokes packing up alongside me with a "cant see anymore" then have handed them my own bino`s..there is always an audible "aaaaaahhhh"

Some of the bino`s had cost a considerable amount of money I have to add, they were not all run of the mill catch the punter bino`s one mate equated "i paid a grand for these" insinuating that as he did so they MUST be good.

He was one of the
"aaaaaahhhh" squeakers I will add and as they say 'he saw the light'

I do suppose that we make do with what we have in our hands at the time as any are better than none. There is a pair of Tasco 10x20`s that rattle around in my ute, they rarely ever get pulled out but when I have none of my better binos and its decent daylight they make a huge difference but would I hunt with them? NAH!
A few grand in initial cost is well worth it as you will get 20-30 or more years out of the good ones.

Just me opining thats all!

Well i read all the comments and ended up buying a pair of the fury’s and I can honestly say they are amazing. Iv used some vortex vipers for years and always been impressed with them so I had no doubt the fury’s would be fine also . Iv been out with them for the past 3 evenings and sat out untill very last light and they have been faultless . Iv used zeiss and Leica rf binos in the past and originally wanted some Leica rf binos but having used these I honestly say I’m glad I didn’t pay twice the price for leicas. obviously there’s no ballistic data with these but what you get is a excellent pair of rf binos for half the price of others and for me the image quality at dusk was as good as other top brands. The rf works brilliant in all light conditions and I was ranging out to 1200m with them the image quality is excellent. The only issue if any is the led display for the rf seems very bright at dusk but I suppose if your worried about this then it will cost you the price of some Leica with adjustable brightness. The other great thing about these is the size , they are very compact compared to other rf binos.

Regards ben

You can adjust the brightness of the RF, use the menu button to do it.

Thanks jim I will look at that. Clearly not played with them enough yet, That’s just made these binos even better .

Cheers
