liked the look of and got a pair of kuiu northridge over trousers was out today not heavy rain but walking through chest height bracken my trousers underneath where saturated for the price of them very disappointed to be honest
so what is a good over trousers out their that actually do what their meant to
keep you dry

thanks

thanks i like agricultural but that normally means heavy
@Acm can advise, he’s agricultural and has tried the majority of offerings, I think with the Kaiwaka it’s more that they are a little more noisy than the soft touch type materials we hunters seem to strive for, but other than that I don’t think you’d have issue

Sounds daft but get yourself a pair of gortex fishing waders and cut the feet off. Most have inbuilt gaiters (gravel guards) that’ll fit over your boots too.

I have recently purchased the Kuiu Chugach jacket in one of the sales they have and used it in heavy rain and it works extremely well. Maybe try the trousers but again wait for a sale

I don't have the Northridge but do have the Yukon jacket and trousers and they're really good, I have been out in some miserable weather and its never let me down, Then again neither did my old army DPM Goretex gear

@Brighty3006 See my post here - the Chugach TR rain pants are VERY thin, too thin in my opinion for the intended purpose and contrary to Kuiu’s advertising are not robust enough for stalking. They might be ok for a dog walk in the park!

Kuiu have sent some repair patches but they have yet to arrive………

Not sure if it was the fact I was pushing through soaking waste high bracken but they certainly did not keep me dry

I send an inordinate amount of time in waterproof trousers. For years I've been very happy with air flex type, they'll keep you dry, cheap enough to replace or have 2 just in case. That said, I recently got pair of betacraft ones as I've been impressed with the jacket I have. They certainly are 'superior' feeling, though I'm just as dry as my previous ones. Only downside is I was kicking myself when I got sheep marker spray on them yesterday!

They are badged as the lightest most packable probably for yanks to slip on when climbing mountains for a bit of rain protection, I think the Yukon are more suitable for British type stalking.

thanks for the information. Always learning. I like the Kuiu gear and it's always good to hear others experience with the various items as within coming from the U.S it's not possible to handle the stuff.

I usually use the British army issue goretex trousers over whatever els I am wearing. they do keep me dry... the sound of the rain will drown out any noise I am making and at 20 quid a pair, I am not too worried if I catch them on barbed wire.
I have also used the German ones (they have the added advantage of a zipped fly!)

Part of my email to Kuiu quoting their advertising:

I have bought a fair amount of Kuiu clothing in recent years, finally biting the bullet recently to order some expensive rain gear. Having worn the Chugach TR trousers for the first time last week during a red deer stalk over Scottish moorland, I was saddened and extremely disappointed to discover a tear on the outside of the trousers. The ground was not clear-fell or any really demanding terrain with thorns, etc - it was typically composed of grassy hummocks, heather and boggy ground. I was not conscious of the damage occurring and only discovered it on coming to remove the trousers – I had worn them for barely 2 hours!

What’s worse is that looking on the Kuiu website whilst a repair patch costs £9, it costs £16 to ship it to the UK; something that would fit in a letter weighing less than 100 gm! Buying 2 patches (there is also a small hole above the tear) brings the cost up to £33, an extortionate amount!

I am frankly appalled by the apparent fragility of these trousers which are promoted for active deer managers and at today’s price of £284 (plus shipping) consider them to be not fit for purpose. Quoting you advertising, I have highlighted the statements I fundamentally question:

The redefined Chugach TR is stronger, more waterproof, and lighter than ever before. Revamped with Toray's Torain (TR) Waterproof Technology, the new Chugach rain gear system performs better with a 400% increase in abrasion resistance and nearly 20% reduction (5.4 oz) in combined jacket and pant weight. Upgrades include improved breathability, ultra-fast dry time and 20% increase in tear strength.

The result is a packable rain gear system with the durability for extreme mountain hunts, plus excellent breathability and stretch to keep hunters comfortable even at high levels of exertion. This full-featured rain pant includes an adjustable waist with built-in belt, full-length side zippers for easy on/off and ventilation, articulated knees for unrestricted performance, gusseted crotch for mobility, and Bemis overlay film scuff guards for added durability.

Durability for extreme mountain hunts” – these trousers are not robust enough for a stroll in the local park!

I feel the same about my kuiu northridge pair stroll in the park if it was not raining that is soaked through
Was out today with my old pair of highlander tempest over trousers on
Granted not as light not the same movement possibly looked as though I was checking sheep
But bone dry and I think that’s an important feature of a water proof trouser especially one that’s cost £200 +
