We love our 22Lrs right? But what is the mext step up?

My choice was a 223 to start off with, then work my way up to from there. So far I'm well pleased with my decision.
FAO was happy with that for foxes, as around here they like you to have a mentor, DSC1 or have something booked up.

Hi guys.

Simple one I think. I love my 22lr (cz). Accurate, fun to shoot, cheap to feed and can knock bunnies over all day. It got me my first FAC and ammo is available everywhere right? I'm not even considering getting rid of it but had couple of thoughts...

I only shoot rabbits for food on my perm and have no need or interest in foxes. But, I do like to reload, would like to shoot out a bit further accurately, and would like to avoid damaging game to the point that it is inedible.

So I'm guessing my choices for 'stepping up' are 17hmr, 17 hornet, 22 hornet, 204 ruger and 222/223? I already have an empty slot for .223 on my fac but do you think I'd be better of with any of the others? For clarity I'm not concerned with noise or recoil particularly...more suitability tbh.

Thanks in advance 😉
Of the rounds listed 223 is the most versatile and you have that slot. 204 is a great cartridge and if your worried about meat damage head shots, for that matter same with 223. 17hmr if i shot for meat bunnys head shots as well.

If you have a slot for a .223, then get a .223 - it's just about the most popular calibre out there so there is a vast range of bullets and loads available. I'd advise trying to get one with a faster twist (1:9 for example) as it will help you stabilise subs if that's the way you want to go.

Don't try solving the argument of .222 vs .223 - it's never going to happen. They both do a great job at sensible ranges. If you have muntjac on your permission then .22CF is the way to go. Head shots make a mess but leave the body intact. Mate of mine shot a bunny with his 6.5 Creedmoor last week - that was proper glove puppet territory.
