Ok got a 50m border with a railway line and they do Jack sh1t about their side …. I’ve got a huge area of gravel / chuckies I’m sick and tired of pulling weeds from ….. other side of property long boundary agin rattled with weeds …
What you guys using that’s actually works and isn’t bloody as much use as water ?
Tried getting sodium chloride tubs from Harbro but no longer for sale to general public … seems joe public can’t get hold of anything worthwhile & as for those Tibet spray bottles of round up ? How much???! For what I’d need I’d need to remortgage !

Recommendations of something that
A. Works
B. Won’t kill me along with diesel electric and gas prices !

Or am I searching for Unicom pish again?

Ammonium Sulphamate is a very useful compost accelerator, it was banned by the EU as a weed killer because it wasn't tested on dogs.
Bi Mix with Glypohosate is pretty effective.
Google might help...

Evening, as above Gallup XL, I have just sprayed 24 acres to kill everything before ploughing and re seeding. Its great stuff.
I put it on @5ltr to the HA and 200ltr of water. On the label this is called total destruction.

Stick to recommended dosing rates and don't be tempted to mixed commercial Glyphosate concentrate too strongly. It doesn't kill the weeds any quicker, it just shocks the leaves and causes them to burn and wither before they can transmit the chemical to the root which is what actually kills the plant, and then it can revive.
Correct dosage and patience.

Gallup works well but takes a while for the plants to die. The selective weed killer (grazon) I used seems to cause wilting to start almost immediately

As said, Glyphosate. If you got thistles, now is the time to get them. The leaves are starting to die back, it takes the stuff down to the roots better, same with any waxy leafed weeds.

Forgot to mention add a good wetter, activator 90 or similar, this will help with the uptake/ effectiveness

Wetting agents reduce run-off, which is definitely a good thing. During the growing season, all plants continuously absorb moisture and nutrients from the soil. When you apply herbicide you want to treat the plant so you kill the target species, not the soil which then becomes toxic to everything living in it.

What he said, spot on, can take up to 6 weeks of patience :thumb:

Sympathise with you.
Unfortunately in the railway, we’re tied to what we can do; both environmentally and monetarily.
In the age of steam trains, the sparks from the firebox set off fires in the countryside keeping vegetation down: also the track gangs kept a pride in keeping their section in good condition.
All that went a long time ago!

So now we go out to a job.
”Oh that’s great you’re cutting the trees down, they’ve blocked my view”
”Why are you cutting the trees down and destroying the habitat for the birds and insects?”
”Why are you using chainsaws in the middle of the night? Can you not do it during the day?”

We’re told to walk at the edge of the track for safety, except the vegetation is so heavy in places that you have no option but to walk in the middle of the track - and so it goes on☹️
