Weed killer

im already £7k down for storm arwen damage for wall at the other side of the property that the house insurance wangled out of ....leagalised extortion useless wa*kers they are dont get me started.....

so seriously how much do you think a 50 odd metre stretch of wall at 6ft high over uneven grounds going to cost? versus decent weed killer & bit of maintenance that really should be done by railway company but thats not gonna happen either ....

so helpful suggestion cheers

Paul
A solid fence then, that the weeds won't grow through.
I've had similar problem myself with a neighbour at my previous house who planted a hornbeam hedge 8 inches away from a chainlink boundary fence. I'd have loved to have sprayed it off. It eats away at you when people do things so selfish and so stupid. Luckily I sold the house before the hedge got going, but had I stayed, I'd have had a digger in, banged a five foot deep foundation in solid concrete and built an 18" brick wall to the maximum legal height to shut the bastards out.
I am a bricklayer, mind you. Still would have cost a fortune but at least labour costs would have been zero.
Seriously, I could look at it for and tell you what it would cost, but yes, a wall of that length wouldn't be cheap, especially nowadays with the outrageous price of bricks and blocks.

To revive this older thread, I need a dog safe weed killer for gravel paths around the house and the drive. 40% acetic acid comes up frequently on Google and is readily available from eBay. I need to be careful because there are a couple of water courses close by that I don't want to risk causing a problem with SEPA by contamination. I have used glyphosate based chemicals in the past but am now a bit wary because of the watercourses.

Has anybody used acetic acid based weed killer, what was your experience with it? Can anyone suggest another effective dog safe weed control method?

Some formulations of glyphosate might still be your best bet. The original Roundup used to be cleared for weed control in watercourses before they started adding welters. It wasn’t even covered by COSSH.

Spray with diesel.
You don’t need much and it kills everything.
Fox and badger don’t like walking through it either

Ok got a 50m border with a railway line and they do Jack sh1t about their side …. I’ve got a huge area of gravel / chuckies I’m sick and tired of pulling weeds from ….. other side of property long boundary agin rattled with weeds …
What you guys using that’s actually works and isn’t bloody as much use as water ?
Tried getting sodium chloride tubs from Harbro but no longer for sale to general public … seems joe public can’t get hold of anything worthwhile & as for those Tibet spray bottles of round up ? How much???! For what I’d need I’d need to remortgage !

Recommendations of something that
A. Works
B. Won’t kill me along with diesel electric and gas prices !

Or am I searching for Unicom pish again?

Paul
If you add chikara to roundup it works for 5 months

This ^^^ works well better than other stuff I’ve wasted money on.

Gallon of vinegar, 4 table spoons of salt and a few squirts of washing up liquid.
Not a danger to the environment and cheaper than Roundup .

Doesn’t that constitute environmental pollution?
Only if you get caught.
I had my tongue firmly in my teeth.
But it does work extremely well if you ignore the by catch issue.
Use a proprietary product, you can source them from any agricultural supply store.
If they say they can’t sell it to unqualified people, ask why?
The regulations apply to the user, not the purchaser.
Or at least they did up to Brexit

White vinegar - £3 a gallon in Chinese wholesaler. Just spray it all over the leaves on a dry/warm day - amazing stuff. It is used in France as anything weedkillerish that gets into the water course leads to a very heavy fine…

Road salt definitely worth a try! Killed everything for a good 2 years, sprinkled a fair amount of it.
