Wet weather jacket

Which Kuiu model were you using? I have the Yukon and have had no issues with it. However if you want something cheap and cheerful that will actually keep you dry try and find an unused dpm wet gesr jacket. They are work very well. Just a tad noisy!
North ridge , absolutely useless

helly hansen gale waterproof rain workwear in green £65 off eBay
not fancy but wind waterproof and as good as breathable quick drying at night and easy cleaned. I usually put a cheap fleece under it in old weather

The North ridge is Half as waterproof as the Yukon. Also only has a quarter of the breathability. 10,000mm v 20,000mm waterproof rating and 10,000 gm v 40,000 breathability rating. The Yukon is an awesome jacket.

Arktis Lightweight waterproof shell coat hooded, Australian Camo, great because it's so lightweight you shouldna sweat too much either carrying or wearing it, but waterproof too, and the wind goes round rather than through. Not breatheable, but next best thing. Grand muted colour on the hill too.

I usually set off to the hill a bit 'underdressed', often just the baselayer in fine weather, so that it feels a bit cold when you set out; by the time you've stepped up a bit the heat appears, but can easily be stripped off you if you haven't a windproof outer layer to throw on. Waterproof definitely an advantage! Most guests appear wrapped up like Michelin men, and end up sweating like horses before you get to the start of the hill path at the bottom, never mind up in the snow in the Corrie, lol!

Best value jacket I ever bought.
I bought one of these jackets too in optiview pattern, very happy with it and they have a small stuff sac too. They are not flawless. But worth a go as they are so light and packable. Did you buy the Atacs AU pattern ? Was going to go with it but feared the colour might be a bit light.

I did. Regional variations apply, cobber 🤣. I have an aversion to anything that is dark or has too much dark colour about it. Much of the background here is dead grass for much of the year. When you next see a distant field with cattle in it, try to pick out the lighter coloured ones, the dark ones will have been registered by you long before. The AU colour is good for higher up the hill, and fields on lower ground, imv.

More like tundra than treacle!

I have a credit with them so will give one of the AU a try too. Not sure what you thought about sizing , but the large which I normally am, was huge on me, so returned for a medium fit is fine with layers inside.

I prefer it a bit roomy, in case we need to wear something warm under it if waiting in inclement weather. I like plus fours for the room to move too, ye can get a yard or two closer before the fabric moves, lol!

I've no experience, but when reading articles and recommandations from Brown Bear guides in Alaska, I can add what they advise.
I don't think Alaska is easy walking neither. Nothing stops water like PVC and nothing wich is breathable is waterproof.
- Helly Hansen Impertech
- Grundens Neptune

All guides says nothing beats these two ( cheap) outfits for keeping you dry.
