What a day !

Our penultimate pheasant shoot yesterday. A few beaters missing and the birds are very wild. We saw them, but they didn't all go over where they should. The weather was cold and overcast with a breeze, but better than it had been a few days before. We started off with high hopes to the quarry drive and things went very well. Plenty of birds seen, going in all directions, but we were up to it, and some lovely high birds came down. The next drive did not go so well, birds escaping from every angle, but I had a good stand and I was starting to think that this was going to be my day !. Then it happened. I missed a long pigeon, and the gun just did not feel right. I had a look, and even with my eyesight I could see a crack in the stock, about an inch and a half long, just behind the safety catch. Well, what do you do ? No spare, so that was it for me as a gun. All was not lost, however, as I worked my dog very well ( I think so, even if reality is different ). The bag for the day was 42, so I had some to take home to eat. On the way back I hit a pothole in a country lane and split the side of my tyre. Why is it always wet and muddy when you have to change a wheel ? Good job there was a pub nearby !

Hope the stock can be fixed the tyre was the icing on your cake.
Plus plenty of pot holes around the lanes to Sittingbourne around the back of Detling hill area
