What bipod

@caberslash, I think someone has stolen your identity and is posting under your name.
That post isn't the least bit contentious 😘

Well, I could have said that most use a bipod on a deer rifle like a crutch, as proper rifle support (and I don't mean a set of expensive stalking sticks) isn't even discussed, let alone taught at the DSC1 (remind me, what is?)

But that would have derailed the thread... :finger:

The latest Javelin bipods all have either fixed length level or notched legs and a wider stance too. Being a small company still they are able to take on feedback and improve designs quite quickly.

Yes very fast to move on.

In fact so fast that 8 months after buying my £200 javelin I tried to buy the longer legs only to be told that the model was discontinued and no parts were available, which was a tad upsetting.

The new ones look much better but are eye wateringly dear, more or less competing with the atlas CAL which is to my mind superior.

I've got a "BONE" bipod made by Strasser in Austria, quality bipod with a lot of features.
It's removable with plenty of options for mounting but it does leave a spigot on the gun when the bipod is off.
I dont like carrying the bipod on the rifle so I made a matching spigot to hang it from my bino harness until I need it.

The best all-around bipod currently on the market is probably the Tier-One Evolution bipod. It just offers so much more than even some of the considerably pricier bipods that it really is a great choice. One of the features they added recently are the "sealed roller bearings", as they call them, which allow the bipod to rotate smoothly around the barrel, but that's just one of the positives, really. What most owners see as a big plus is the amount of customization available. The legs can be locked at 45° or 90°, the feet are extremely easy to swap, the legs can be pulled out and back in very smoothly and fast, and the QD system is the same as on their scope mounts, which ensures repeatability.

To sum up: If you're on the fence about the bipod, then the Evolution is a sure bet. It's suited for just about any personal need, and it comes at a relatively low cost.

I had exactly the same thoughts on the Tier One Evolution, which is why I decided to pay more than I ever had on a bipod and ordered one. Relatively local company too which is great.
Unfortunately, as several people have mentioned, I would never recommend one to anyone. Significant play in one leg, feet that fell off and pins came out. The QD simply didn't work, it didn't lock so could just be flicked open. In terms of the rotating around the barrel design, it won't work with certain rifles and the legs couldn't be fully raised as they interfered with the moderator. It also has to be mounted to the very end of a picatinny rail so that was a bit of a headache to figure out.
Nice marketing, however poor execution. When these issues were raised, Tier One were very uninterested and unhelpful. It has actually put me off buying any Tier One products in the future.
I have since gone to a 'plain' Atlas, however does exactly what it says.

I'm sure it's no coincidence that Tier One used to CNC the parts for Spartan then they parted ways after Tier One started knocking out their own bipods that were very similar to the Spartan ones they'd been making parts for🤷🏻‍♂️

I also own an early evolution tier in bipod and agree the design was too slim.

What tier one did was re-design the bipod and not advertise this fact.

Tier ones advertising is utter shite. Craig the owner has the charisma of a carrot. His recent video on social media is a joke. They have introduced new bipods and haven’t even designated them as such.

Honestly they need a media revamp. I also agree quick releases don’t work the carbon is purely cosmetic 22g difference between the aluminium model. And god knows how much in cost.

I’ve had the rubber feet fall off several times and had them send me new ones out. This was after contact on social media.

Tier one is the owners glorified hobby. The mono mount with the mirage hook on the front. What is that all about.

Very unfashionable I know, but I'm a big fan of Versapod bipods. I've got a 9-12 for my rimfire and centreline, both mounted via an embedded spigot and the super short version on my Rapid. I like how fast they are to deploy, and also they can be quickly removed and slipped into a pocket as I don't like having a bipod on if I'm using sticks.

Great bipods!!

I use a versapod as well.
I have 3 krg bravo stocks with bipod spigots fitted that I can use for my versapod and phoenix bipods.
I don't like the bipod on either when using sticks so I just keep it in my pocket.

Im not that impressed by my tier one, I’ve had to glue the carbon fibre cover back on the legs and glue the rubber feet back on. For a premium product it’s pretty crap imo! They make very good rings but the bipod is not so good! The customer service wasn’t that great when I told them the bipod fell apart!
What he said👆. I have evolution and still use it butdoes not feel like premium product as the price would make you think.
I even had rings completely fail. Customer service is non-existent. I contacted them regarding the failure but had nothin back whatsoever. Fortunately The guys I bought it from replaced it promptly. I would probably go to Atlas if I was to change. The feel a lot better then Tier One.

Completely agree. The carbon is a sleeve and doesn’t offer any support.

I like the Atlas CAL bipods but they are a little on the large side for all round use. Hence looking at the MDT.

What is the MDT bipod made out of?
Looks like plastic?!

As I said on a similar thread recently, I have three Harris swivel bipods that can now attach to a Picatinny rail. I was shooting today with the lowest Harris bipod and had I needed to, I could have taken it off altogether. The only drawback to this approach is it makes attaching a sling a bit trickier.
