what boots do u wear stalking

take a look on evil bay for Lowa's lots of mil surplus on there.

What lightweight boots are people using? Ive got a pair of Lowa's wich are brill in the winter but too heavy and hot for summer summer jaunts

Unfortunately I can't afford any fancy branded boots like you lot while I am still a student. So fir me it is a £10 pair of B&Q wellies or my old work boots. I could go stalking all day and my feet would be fine because that is what I am used to.

Can't beat the Lowa's IMO - I have the Mountain boot version. Good prices and great service from -
Lowa Mountain Boot GTX UK £129.95
The main thing for me is fit - I take 13 and these also come in a wide fitting which is rare in European shops.
The flex to support ratio is bang on too - they allow plenty of movement but if you go over hard they save the ankle.

I've gone through three different pairs of OTB boots for summer use - stay away from the mesh panel ones like the ferdelance - they won't stand up to the cover here.
The jungle version I have at the moment are much tougher - they don't use leather so need no care at all - get them wet and dirty and just hose them off.
Sizing is very small in both width and length though. They are very light in weight and perfect for the hottest of days but by design are non-waterproof.

i have a bog standard pair of aigle rubber, cost me £45, they flop over and perish in the fold if you dont keep them upright.
very comfortable with a pair of trainer insoles in them but I could not walk up a hillside in them.

I wear the same pair of Scarpa SL with yeti gaiters that I got for my 21st birthday 17 years ago!
Gaiters completely cover the boot and fit into specially designed grooves in the sole/rand.
I have silicon sealed them on so they are totally waterproof. I had to replace the rubber gaiter on one of them about 3 years ago, cost me £15!
they owe me nothing

I have stood up to my knees in a burn without so much as a trickly through the zip/velcro.

I ALWAYS rip out the standard insoles of my boots and shoes and replace them with ones that fit. either custom moulded ones or sorbethane

I wear muck boots if it is wet or Ariat anckle boots if the ground is good and dry. Got high leg Hunters if the ground is rough going.

Another vote for Lowa Mil boots.

Penrith Survival at Appleby - top store.

Used to have Meidle, the Lowas are better by far....

I have a pair of Altbergs. Hand made in Richmond, Yorkshire and cheaper than some of the more expensive continetal European brands. They've been very good so far. Two seasons in.

Another vote for Bestards. Only ones with removable Gore Tex liners. Dry out overnight after a wet day. Roller bearings instead of friction lacing system. Never broken a set of laces.

what boots do I wear stalking?

Winter and rough terrain = Danner Hood
Summer = Danner Jackal

I fell in love with Danners following ten years of wearing Acadia and Olympics in the real world, but neither version would really be that good for stalking.

Neither are perfect, though the Jackal comes damn close, especially when it comes to putting them on/taking them off several times a day cos of all the laces.

I have at times thought of buying a pair of Chameau or Hunters, but then I wear a real boot again and the thought disappears

got crap ankles playing rugby so dont wear wellys
miendel douvre for the last two yrs but am considering a change as my feet got cold dec jan this year and i just dont function well with cold feet

Another vote for Blackislanders 11" maintenance free boots. Used them on the grouse moor and general beating all last season - still like new. My mate has a pair in its 4th season and still no problems. Can get them for around £140 if you look around. Muck boots are also OK depending on the terain you stalk (bit sweaty in the heat of summer), I use mine for walking the dogs.
